Celebrate Earth Day!

April 22 is Earth Day. For the last two weeks we have been writing about environmental issues - first the effect that nature can have on our health and then a list of actions that we can take to help preserve the environment. This week we'd like to suggest a few more things that we can try.


On a household level, we can:

  • cultivate houseplants - They filter pollutants from indoor air.
  • use environmentally friendly cleaning products - Vinegar is a mild disinfectant and baking soda is a mild abrasive.
  • limit (or eliminate) our use of pesticides and herbicides
  • find ways to use less water

On a community level, we can ask for:

  • parks, trees, and other plantings that are suited to our climate (use less water, etc.)
  • safe places to walk and bike to work and on errands
