ENMU WELL REPRESENTED AT MLK ACTIVITIES
ENMU was well represented in Portales’ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration on Monday, Jan. 21. Bud Elliott was the master of ceremonies. Debby Parker gave an inspirational speech (excerpted on KVII TV). Oscar Robinson moderated the “Press Conference from the Past” which included Don Elder as President John F. Kennedy, Don Criss as Senator Hubert Humphrey, Patrice Caldwell as Eleanor Roosevelt, Julia Rosa Lopez-Emslie as Dolores Huerta, and Jose Angel Garcia as Cesar Chaves. David Gerig conducted the ENMU choir, and Jennifer Poyer sang (as well as student Catherine Chavez). Several ENMU organizations, including TRIO, Admissions, Campus Police, Multi-Cultural Student Organizations, and the Golden Library, and individuals, including President Gamble, Fabian Lopez, Fred and Olympia Chino, Jeremiah Portillo and Wendel Sloan, participated in the parade or served on the organizing committee.

WILLIAM JENNINGS BRYAN NOT EXPECTED TO ATTEND
Dr. Jonathan Smith, holder of ENMU’s Jack Williamson Visiting Endowed Chair in Science and the Humanities, will make a presentation on “Charles Darwin, Natural Selection, and Victorian Culture” at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 6, in Buchanan Hall in the Music Building. It will be part of an ongoing colloquium on “Darwin and Darwinism Today: Contexts and Controversies” that Dr. Smith hopes will "facilitate discussion and reflection by students, faculty, and the broader community on the interactions of science and the humanities and their importance in enhancing American culture and society." Dr. Smith says that, “No scientific theory has had a wider impact on our understanding of what it means to be human, in both a literal and figurative sense, than Darwinian evolution, and none has generated more controversy in everyday American life. It thus seems a natural selection (if you'll forgive the pun) for the colloquium, a topic I hope will spark the kind of engaged, thoughtful discussion that Jack (Williamson) envisioned.”

FORGOT YOUR BIRTHDAY (OR JUST IGNORED IT)?
Did you forget your birthday? Remember…during your birthday month you can visit the Bookstore with your campus ID (or with a friend) and driver’s license (you can cover up the year with your thumb) and receive 30% off any one item* in the store *(excluding textbooks, computer software, and sales items). We know some of you might like to forget, but you’re only as old as you look…

The “piggy bank pig” is still in the store--so come in and stack up savings. (See your Jan. 22 Monday Memo for a list of sale prices--if you don’t have one, make Wendel Sloan an offer.)

Prepare now for Valentine’s Day: place your order for campus delivery of a Valentine Balloon Bouquet for a special friend or co-worker. Come in this week and check out our selection. Balloon bouquets range from $5-9.95. You can also create your own balloon bouquet - three balloons free with any gift purchase over $5.

Also on sale now and through the month of February: We are closing out our selection of men’s and women’s cologne--30% off! Selected backpacks--50% off!

February is African American History Month--watch for our selection of books.
