KENW-FM TO REACH MIDLAND, TEXAS--Midland, Texas, will receive the signal of KENW-FM by mid-March, via a translator towered near Midland. "I'm very pleased about it," John Ingram, a Midland businessman and public-radio supporter and enthusiast, said of the return of the Portales programming in an article in the Midland Telegram. "Their voices that present their programming are much more professional than others in the area" in the public and private sectors, Ingram said. "They certainly have a professional demeanor," Ingram said. "Their programming schedule is a little more comfortable for my own personal listening pleasure," Ingram said. "We are significantly committed financially up there," Ingram said of his wife, Marcia, their business and himself. The station, which broadcasts National Public Radio (NPR) and Public Radio International (PRI) programming 24 hours a day, had been broadcasting in Midland since the late 1980s until last year. KENW-FM station is augmented by its 100,000-watt satellite transmitter, KMTH-FM, at Maljamar, N.M. The Midland 10-watt translator broadcasting the New Mexico signal at 88.7 megahertz went off the air about a year ago after the California-based KLOVE, which plays contemporary Christian music, took over that frequency with permission of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
