These Announcements were submitted to the Monday Memo by University
Community Members (employees, students and retirees). Announcement submissions
must be received by Thursday at noon for publication on the following
Monday. To submit your Monday Memo item, use the Submit
Announcement (which can also be found
at /about/mmemo/index.html)
and choose "General Announcement" or "Notice" as
the Announcement Type. You may also submit announcements by email to
monday.memo@enmu.edu.
Announcements can only be accepted from off-campus groups that are non-profit
and the announcements should have some relevance to ENMU (such as seeking
ENMU volunteers).

noon on the Thursday
prior to the Monday publication. Submissions may be sent via e-mail

Monday Memo Summer Publication Schedule
Following today's issue, the Monday Memo will follow the
usual summer schedule of publishing every other week. The next issue
will be Monday, May 27.
General Meeting for Professional and Support
Staff There will be a General Staff Meeting for professional
and support staff on Wednesday, May 15 at 3:30 p.m. in Buchanan Hall
in the Music Building. Please let President Gamble know before the meeting

A.E.O.P. Brown Bag Lunch
A.E.O.P. would like to invite everyone to a "Brown Bag Lunch"
on Tuesday, May 14, in the Aztec Room of the CUB at 12 noon. Please
feel free to bring a friend so that we all can have a "Blooming"
good time. Even if we didn't get our April Showers to bring us all May
Flowers, we'll have one of our local Florist share ideas as to what
we can do ourselves.
Greyhound Arena Hours The
Max-Pac and Open Recreation will re-open on Thursday, May 16. However,
the indoor racquetball courts will be open and the South Gym will be
available for the "12-1 Under the Rim Crew", only from 12-1
p.m.
Computer Helpdesk Change of Hours for Summer
During the summer, the Computer Center Helpdesk will open at
8 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning May 13. Regular
hours will resume on Aug. 12.
Oral Comps Set William Bridges
will take oral comprenhensive tests on Thursday, May 16 in COB 103 from
10 a.m.-noon. Food will be served.
Thesis Defense A thesis entitled
"Biomechanical Comparison of the One- and Two-Foot Jump in a Volleyball
Spike" will be defended by Laura Crawford on May 15, 2002, at 9
a.m. in GA 40. You are welcome to attend.
Wellness Mentor Workshop Set
Another wellness mentor workshop will be held on Tuesday, May 14, from
9 a.m. to noon in Greyhound Arena, Room 40. We will provide a little
background in wellness and some techniques for wellness mentoring. We
will also talk about developing a network of mentors so that we can
exchange ideas and learn how to connect people with the type of informational
support that they need. If you are interested in participating in this
workshop call Mary Drabbs at 562.4344 (leave a message with your name
and contact information if I'm not in) or e-mail me at mary.drabbs@enmu.edu.
If you would like to become a member of the wellness mentor network
but cannot attend this workshop, call me anyway and indicate your interest.

Deadlines for Purchase Orders, Etc.
Friday, May 17 is the last day for requisition
approval from the Business Office for Purchase Orders to be charged
to the 2001-2002 budget. Any item ordered but not received on campus
by June 30, 2002 will be charged to the 2002-2003 budget.
Friday, June 7 is the last day for requisition approval from the Business
Office for Issue Check Requisitions to be charged to the 2001-2002 budget.
Purchasing Card statements will be sent out on June 26. Items not appearing
on the June 26 statement will be charged to the 2002-2003 budget.
Travel Reimbursement Vouchers need to be submitted to the Business Office
by Friday, June 28 for any trips taken during the 2001-2002 fiscal year.
If a trip crosses fiscal years, please submit the travel reimbursement
as soon as the trip is complete.
All 2001-2002 interfunds should be submitted to the Business Office
by Tuesday, July 2.

Integrate Technology Into Your Teaching
The Faculty Resource Center is here to help you set up your Blackboard
on-line courses for the summer and fall semesters. We can assist in
the development or use of Blackboard courses, presentations, and multi-media.
Have a film clip on VCR tape that you would like to put on your web
page? Do you need documents scanned? We can do it. The FRC is located
in the College of Education Building, Room 130 (phone 4415). Hardware
available includes: Video and Digital Cameras, color scanners, CD burner
drives, video capture cards and VCR, color printers, zip drives, and
tons of software. What kinds on software you ask? Well, we have Adobe

Administrators' Evaluations Set for Fall
Since 2001, administrative employees have been evaluated by their
supervisors in March and April to finalize their contracts in May-June.
Employee evaluations of administrators in spring cannot be tallied and
transcribed in time for a March-April review; for example, supervisory
evaluations of administrators this spring will be using employee evaluations
of administrators completed in March 2001. So the Administrators' Evaluation
Committee, with the approval of Support, Professional and Faculty Senates,
has decided to move the evaluation process of administrators to fall.

Emeritus Faculty to Be Honored
The Friends of Eastern Foundation will honor the University's retired
Emeritus Faculty members at a luncheon on Thursday, May 23 at 12 noon
in the Zia Room of the Campus Union Building. Members of the university
community are cordially invited to attend the luncheon on a dutch-treat
basis. Reservations are required and can be made by calling the Office
of Development, ext. 2412. by May 16.
Walk the Talk Scheduled Walk
the Talk, a technology immersion program, will be held for the fourth
year at ENMU-Portales, July 30 through August 3, and Lake Arthur Schools
May 29-31 and July 25-26. Walk the Talk is a three-hour graduate level
class supporting teachers and administrators as they design quality
high-tech and online curriculum to use in schools. If you are working
on a master's degree in education or just need to improve your technology
integration in the classroom, this is the course for you.
Walk the Talk will provide hands-on instruction for teachers and administrators
as they learn to apply Microsoft Office tools (PowerPoint, Excel, Access
etc.), Web-Design, Online Lesson Development, and Internet Tools in
classroom environments. Participants work on a computer the entire week
and are guided through a process of designing and using technology to
benefit students, parents and themselves.
Classes are facilitated by classroom teachers who have successfully
integrated technology into their classroom with diverse student populations.
Instructors show student examples and have many resources that participants
can use in their classrooms. All participants receive free copies of
Microsoft Office, instructional software and materials to use in their
classrooms.
Walk the Talk has a website to view some of the current work being produced
by teachers and administrators. The web address is http://errc.enmu.edu.
The fee for Walk the Talk includes the software, materials, three hours
of graduate credit and instruction. Registration packets are available

Upward Bound Has Positions Available
The ENMU Upward Bound program would like to announce the following
Summer 2002 Positions available: Instructors in Advance Computers and
English (Research) at $8.00/hr as well one male Resident Assistant at
$1,200 stipend for an eight-week commitment. Deadline to apply is May
30. Inquiries can be made at the Upward Bound office in the University
Annex Building, Room 114, or by calling ext. 2452.
Summer Financial Aid Available
Summer financial aid is available to those who qualify. Up to $750-SEOG,
$1,500-Workstudy, and $4,000-Perkins, and students' remaining Stafford
eligibility. Summer aid applications are in the Financial Aid office,
SAS 107.
Supplemental Instructors Needed
Supplemental Instructors needed for Basic/Intermediate Algebra
for Fall. Student Hire $6.00/hr up to 10 hrs/wk. Pick up applications

Caring For/Living With Catastrophic Illness Whether a

Four-Week Cross Stitch with Victoria Garrett, Cozy Cottage

p.m. The fee is $40.00 with an additional $28.20 kit fee payable to

How to Care for Your Computer learn
temp file removal and more to make your computer run better overall

Virus Protection learn about viruses and protection from

Borders and Titles practice in class with furnished supplies
and leave with kit supplies and the know-how to do an entire album with

p.m., FCS-99. The fee is $10.00 with an additional kit fee of $7.00
payable to the instructor. Please register by June 19.
Swimming for ages 4 and up with Red Cross Certified Instructors,
Ben and Jared Zatorski and Kristi Jones in four-day, two-week rotations,
Mon-Thur., 4-4:50 p.m., beginning June 10, June 24, and July 15, Natatorium.
The fee is $40 and includes a Red Cross Card for the level passed. Please
register by Friday noon prior to each rotation.
Yoga, Stretch, Tone and Relax a six week class beginning
June 10 with Lisa Moyer meeting once a week on Saturdays, 11-11:50 a.m.
for $25.00, twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays, 6-6:50 p.m. for
$50.00 or combined for three times a week for $75.00 in GA-11. If accompanied
by their parent, children as young as five years of age are welcome.

Speedy Cross Stitch a one nighter for beginners only to
make a potpourri heart pillow with Victoria Garret, Cozy Cottage Cross

The fee is only $7.00 with an additional kit fee of $5.00 payable to

Carve a Songbird bring a fixed-blade knife (one that will
not close on your fingers) and carve a songbird from white pine or basswood
with Rev. Clyde Davis, Saturday, June 15, 12:30-5:30 p.m., Music Building,
Room 101. For 15 years through adult, the fee is $20.00 with a $5.00
fee payable to the instructor for the carving blank. Please register
by June 7!
Aqua Aerobics offered as a three-day rotation all eight
weeks, but different times in June than July, with Kristi Jones at the
Natatorium for $12 per rotation. June's rotations will be Mondays, Wednesdays
and Fridays, 7-7:50am beginning June 3 while July's will be Mondays,
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5-5:50 p.m. beginning July 1. Materials include
swimsuit, towel and appropriate shoes. Prepayment of $90.00 for all
eight rotations saves you a $6.00 discount, but please register by May
29.
Kids' College former counselor Amanda Mayberry is back
as Lead Teacher for ages 5-12 Years, Mondays-Fridays, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.,
June 3-July 26 for $55.00 per week. Plan for a full day of fun everyday
with Art, Science, Lunch in the Park, Computers, Swimming, Reading and
more! Headquarters this year is located in the Technology Building with
a convenient outdoor drop off/pick up located on the breezeway with
accessible curb parking. A parental consent form is required. Register
early to secure your enrollment.
Taekwon-Do for beginners through greenbelt, ages eight
years through adult, with Steve Blakeley and assistants, Mondays, Tuesdays
and Thursdays, June 3-July 25, 11-11:50 a.m., GA-11. The fee is $70.00

Hip-Hop for ages 13 years through adult meeting in GA-11
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 3:30-4:45 p.m. for four weeks beginning

Buddin' Beethovens a new eight-week class for kindergartners
ages 4-5 years who will experience the reward of ensemble playing with
Nancy Jones, Mondays, 5--5:50 p.m., June 3-July 22, Music Building,
Room 214. A recital for family and friends will be held in Buchanan
Hall the last day of class, July 22. The fee is only $40.00. Register
by May 29.
Jazz three classes for three age ranges for eight weeks
with dance graduate, Jessica Tolen, GA-11 with leotard, tights and jazz
shoes required. The fee is $40.00 with 7-9 years meeting Mondays, 5-5:50
p.m.; 10-14 years meeting Wednesdays, 5-5:50 p.m. and 15 years through
adult meeting Fridays, 6-6:50 p.m. June 3-July 26. Register by May 29
Wild About Chenille Jacket a four-week class meeting Mondays
6:30-8:30 p.m. beginning June 3, FCS-100 with Betty Strange. Learn to
create your own chenille and add as collar and cuff to transform a sweatshirt
to jacket. Sewing machines are provided or bring your own with some
homework stitching required between classes. A materials list is available
at Extended Learning with the cost varying according to your choices.

We Make Music this eight-week class for preschoolers age
three years, Tuesdays, 5-5:50 p.m. beginning June 4, Music Building,
Room 214 with Nancy Jones will introduce music in a variety of ways
as well as allow a recital performance for the last class, July 23,
in Buchanan Hall for family and friends. The fee is $40.00. Register
by May 30.
Ballet/Tap/Pointe three classes for three age ranges for
eight weeks, June 4-July 23, with Summer Lasiter, GA-11 with leotard,
tights and ballet, tap and/or pointe shoes required. The fee is $40.00
for ages 3-5 years (ballet/tap) meeting Tuesdays, 5-5:50 p.m.; 6-9 years
(ballet) meeting Tuesdays, 6-6:50 p.m.; and 10+ years (ballet) meeting
Tuesdays, 7--8:15pm. For ages 12 years and above the fee for en pointe
is $65.00 which meets Fridays, June 7-July 26, 5--6:15 p.m. at the Masonic
Lodge, 117 E 3rd, and includes a concurrent enrollment fee for ballet
10+ years. Register by May 30.
Wilton's Cake Decorating two four-week classes Wednesdays,
7-9 p.m., FCS-98 with Michelle Koos, Michelle's Cakes, one, Beginning
Cake Decorating, June 5-26 and the other, Intermediate Cake Decorating,
July 3-24. The fee is $20.00 per class. Please register at least two
weeks in advance to acquire supplies of approximately $20.00, which
if not found locally can be ordered from Michelle or on line. A supply
list is available at Extended Learning.
Fun with Music three new classes of fun with music for
different age ranges for seven weeks, Thursdays, June 6-July 25 (no
class July 4), Music Building, Room 214, with 1st/2nd graders meeting
40-4:30 p.m.; 3rd/4th graders meeting 4:45-5:15 p.m.; and 5th/6th graders
meeting 5:30-6 p.m.. Taught by G. Montaño Palacios, M.A., the
fee is $35.00, and students should bring paper notebook, markers, pencil,
eraser and music paper. A recital for family and friends will be held
in Buchanan Hall the last day of class, July 25, for each class. Register
by June 3.
Children's Choir also taught by G. Montaño Palacios,
children 1st through 6th grade combine to sing a variety of songs and
present a recital in Buchanan Hall at the end of this seven-week course,
Thursdays, June-6-July 25, 6:15-6:45 p.m., Music Building, Room 214.
The fee is $35.00 with no class held Thursday, July 4.
