"What Happened to You?"

by Bobby Brunson
Campus Bookstore

So, you've asked the question,
"What happened to you?"
As you grimace at this sight
dealt in multi-hue.

Yes, the usual clichés
Are making the rounds;
"I thought she said to stand up,
when she said, 'sit down'. "

And of course, "Does your face hurt?
'cause it's killin' me!"
"What does the other guy look like?"
and, "K.O.'ed in Round 3?"

"…Had a fight with a grinder."
"…Tried to stop a train."
Oh, your imaginations--
having fun with my pain!

An answer is in order,
I have to admit,
if only to curb the rumors
and have gossips quit.

No spat with the loving spouse,
my plow to be cleaned;
No, she is much too genteel
to make such a scene.

In my apparent demise
she came to my aid.
Florence Nightingale, she was,
with cold presses made.

Lavishing her compassion
on my poor wounded head,
for something as mundane as –
falling out of bed.

(composed in pain on Aug 10, 2003)

Demonstration of Option Offense – Greyhound players demonstrate how truly complex the option offense can be when nine runners are in the backfield.

ENMU Photo

And It Gets Even More Complex – When all 11 are eligible, and don't have to wear matching jersies.

ENMU Photo

Secret to Stopping the Option – The blond-haired youngster stunned the coaching staff when he explained a perfect strategy for stopping the Greyhounds' option offense. Fortunately, the kid is a Greyhound fan and promised he wouldn't reveal the secret to anyone outside of the playground.

ENMU Photo

Future Coordinators – It is widely assumed that these two will be the Greyhounds' future offensive and defensive coordinators. The one on the left has drawn up a few new playground wrinkles for the option attack, while the one on the right has seen them – so the Greyhounds have asked his dad to ground him from leaving town.

Drill Team Has Its Own Options

For Reverse-Direction Deception – The ENMU drill team has been devising its own clever ways to distract opponents when the Zias are serving. The team also figures that this exercise will come in handy if the ROTC ever returns to campus.

President's Ambassadors Also Practice
ENMU Photo
(photo by Donna Kittrell or Wendel Sloan – we can't remember)

Teamwork Options – According to Donna Kittrell, the President's Ambassadors chief envoy, this exercise in which the students had to race to the far end after a marble rolled past their section of pipe and re-connect it to keep the marble rolling was designed to teach them teamwork. However, one enterprising P.A. dealt the concept a disputed setback when he was caught applying Elmer's to neighboring sections.

If They Get This Excited Over a Marble...
ENMU Photo

Imagine a Touchdown or a Spike – The President's Ambassadors were elated when they at long-last successfully rolled a marble down all those pipes. The only tempering of the celebration was caused by the exhaustion of a few from trying to surreptitiously pry loose their glued sections – as well as the unfortunate choice of using a green marble which hasn't been seen since it rolled off the sidewalk..

That Is the Way David Moon Titled His E-Mailed Photo – We didn't really understand his explanation, but here it is: "We always welcome new people in our offices, even if it is only for a short time. (In case you wonder why is it worded like this, Jo Allison's real name is Micky or Mickey – didn't know correct spelling, and it's not in any directory, so we did a play on words on the banner). She always hates me making this comparison and revealing her name...but oh well!!!"
