New ENMU Ring Being Unveiled
at Bookstore on March 11
by Colleen Wright
Communication Services
This year Eastern New Mexico University is presenting the school's first
official class ring.
The shoulders of the ring feature the fountain at the heart of the campus
that represents a strong sense of community among students. The words
of the school fight song, O hail ENMU to you, communicate
a sense of respect and esteem for the alma mater, according to Janice
Cowen, director of Alumni Affairs.
As the youngest state university in New Mexico, Eastern looks with pride
upon its accomplishments since the dream of having a university in eastern
New Mexico first arose many decades ago, notes Janice. The Administration
Building reflects Eastern's rich heritage since its 1934 founding. In
addition, the words Green and Silver, Loyal and True are
cast inside the ring "a constant reminder that to our school
we will always remain loyal and true and the green and silver colors
will reign forever," says Janice.
The University's first official rings will be on display from 10 a.m.
to 4 p.m. at the Campus Bookstore on Tuesday, March 11. All ENMU students
that have over 60 credit hours are invited to purchase the ring. This
is the only time this school year that the official Eastern New Mexico
University class ring will be available. Rings will be presented at
a special class ring presentation ceremony on April 25 in the Becky
Sharp Auditorium in the College of Business.
For more information, call the Alumni Office at 505.562.2125.

Should've
Been a Subtle Hint
We
gave readers a subtle hint by featuring Dr. John Olsen in last
week's Monday Memo. Here, the music professor draws the
winner from an orange picnic cup (since our large pistachio jar
and the Monday Memo editor's maroon hat have mysteriously
disappeared in recent weeks from the corporate offices of the
Monday Memo).
Those
who guessed correctly and qualified for the drawing for two Greyhound
basketball tickets were:
Wanda Newberry, Lena Rolan, Norma Stroik, Dorothy Bulls, Mark
Dal Porto, Billy Gaedke, Dianne Parker, Sigrid Jonsson, Gaylinda
Long, Alma Lyle Bilberry, Sharon King, Jane Thompson, Rick Hauptmann,
Brenda Wiggins-Gonzales, Deanna Teal, Doncella Caywood and Amber
Dixson.
A couple of their comments, with exclamation marks intact, include:
"This could be no other than John Olsen. The tux and the
lid of the grand piano in the background is a dead giveaway!!."
Sigrid Jonsson
"That is Dr. John Olsen...with an awful lot of hair!!!!"
