ENMU-Roswell Presenting
'Smoke Outta My Hair' In an effort to raise
awareness about the negative effects of smoking, ENMU-Roswell will
present 'Smoke Outta My Hair' on Tuesday, Nov. 18 from 8 a.m. to
5 p.m. in the Student Services Center on campus. Sponsored by the
Student Activity Board and the Smoking Cessation Program, the event
will include a number of activities throughout the day. Most notably,
those interested will receive a temporary hair coloring to symbolize
the smoke that lingers in hair long after the cigarette is extinguished.
The event is centered on the importance of a support group and 'friends
helping friends' to quit smoking.
Students and smoking cessation staff will also provide free information
on smoking cessation classes, patches and gum that are available
for those who want to quit smoking. Prizes and food will be offered
throughout the day as well.
The Smoking Cessation program at ENMU-Roswell is funded by the New
Mexico Department of Health. The 'Smoke Outta My Hair' event is
a prelude to the Great American Smokeout sponsored by the American
Cancer Society on Nov. 20. Every third Thursday in November, the
smokeout encourages smokers to quit cigarettes for at least one
day, in the hope they will quit forever. More people quit smoking
on this day than on any other day of the year.
Unitarian Universalists

The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process
The goal of world and community peace, liberty, and justice for
all
Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we
are a part.
We meet at Greyhound Arena in Classroom 7. Families are welcome;

Aviation Program
Receives Valuable Donation The Aviation Maintenance
Technology (AMT) program at ENMU-Roswell is the recipient of a valuable
donation, which will greatly enhance hands-on training. Hamilton
Sundstrand, based in San Diego, Calif., recently shipped two Auxiliary
Power Units (APUs) to ENMU-Roswell for use in AMT training. The
company produces APUs for different types of aircraft, from business
jets to jumbo jets. APUs are normally found in the tails of a medium
to large aircraft. On modern aircraft, they consist of a small turbine
engine, which generates power for electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic,
or other systems when the engine driven systems are unavailable.
AMT instructor, David Partain initiated contact with the company
at an aviation conference earlier this year. A few months ago, a
representative of Hamilton Sundstrand asked if ENMU-Roswell was
interested in receiving two serviceable APU's that were being removed
due to equipment upgrades. Initially, ENMU-Roswell was to pay for
the shipping, but the company paid for that as well and the APUs
arrived this week.
"The APU is one of the major parts of an aircraft about which
students are required to receive training," said Partain. "Prior
to these arriving, we had no APUs to provide hands-on training.
These will allow us to do more specialized training with our students.
We are grateful to have a friend like Hamilton Sundstrand in the
aviation industry."
