Defensive Driving Renewal Required Every Four Years – Renewal of defensive driving is required every four years. For "faculty and staff" that is in need to be recertified for defensive driving we have approximately two years to have this recertification completed. It does not have to be completed this year. We have ample time to have everyone including first-time students, faculty and staff to complete this training. The University Police Department is in the process of providing schedules to try to meet everyone's needs. These will include some day-time classes, along with some night-time class and if need be then we will have some classes on Saturday.

The next defensive driving for new people that need to attend the course will be offered on Sept. 8 and 9 from 6-9 p.m. in the Zia Room in the Campus Union Building. We have another class set up for Sept. 10 and 11 at the same place and same times. For personnel that need to renew their defensive driving, which is a four-hour class, those dates are Oct. 15 from 8 a.m. to noon, Oct. 21 from 5:30-9:30 p.m. and Oct. 28 from 1-5 p.m. Everyone needs to sign up at the University Police Department to get their material for the course.

Posting and Solicitation Policies – This initiative is to ensure maximum publicity opportunities for departments and registered student organizations and to deter commercialism that conflicts with the educational mission of the university. These documents will be distributed to all offices on campus, and also be available on the literature racks in the Campus Union Lobby. Departments that want flyers and posters posted around campus need simply drop them off to the Office of Student Activities and Organizations, CU 104. We will stamp and post them as a courtesy.

Registered student organizations that want flyers and posters posted around campus need simply stop by to have them approved (stamped) before posting them around campus. There are 45 "Approved for Posting" locations (bulletin boards) around campus. There are also bulletin boards in the Campus Union for the greater community, and for adds that involve "Rent & Roommate Wanted," and "Buy, Sell & Trade." For the latter, interested advertisers need simply stop by the Campus Union Infomation desk for the predesigned slip to fill out and post. Departments and registered student organizations interested in hanging banners in the Campus Union also need to have them stamped by the Office of Student Activities and Organizations, Campus Union 104.

All of these documents will be available electronically on the ENMU Web site. Please direct questions to the Office of Student Activities and Organizations, x2631. Also, faculty and staff that advise registered student organizations on campus, please share this information; it will reinforce the promotion we are doing directly to them about these new policies. Sincerely, Will Kayatin Director, Student Activities and Organizations

General Comments

"Your photo portrays a cold, steely gaze and firm, no nonsense, lips. The brim of the hat accentuates the stern profile of the jaw line, resolved and just screaming, 'Don't mess with me.' Wait, am I thinking of Marlon Brando? Or have I been reading too many police novels?" – (from the editor of ENMU-Roswell's "The Grapevine" newsletter after receiving a threatening "Watch your back!" e-mail from the Monday Memo editor after she ran a disco photo of him.
