Don't Forget Spirit
of Eastern Awards This Wednesday, April 14 The
ceremony for the 2004 Presidents Spirit of Eastern Awards
is scheduled for Wednesday, April 14 at the University Theartre,
starting with a reception at 3 p.m. and the ceremony at 3:30 p.m.
During this event, the 2004 award winners will be named and recipients
of multiples of five-year certificates will be recognized. We hope
you will join in honoring those people who have dedicated years
of services to ENMU and exemplify the true Spirit of Eastern.
All members of the University community are invited and encouraged

Classes Dismissed for Awards Ceremony on
Tuesday, April 13 On Tuesday, April 13, classes
will be dismissed from 12:30-5 p.m. so that students, faculty, and
staff may attend the Student Research Conference and the Endowed
Scholarships and Departmental Awards Ceremony.
Open House in
SAS Office of Student Financial Aid and the Office
of Enrollment Services would like to invite the ENMU campus community
to join us Thursday, April 15 from 1:30-4 p.m. for our joint open
house in SAS 107. There will be refreshments, door prizes, and tours
of the offices.
'Bubble Boy' Doctor
to speak at ENMU on Friday, April 16 Dr. Mary
Ann South, an Eastern alum (class of '53) who took her MD at Baylor
and was a physician for David, a boy who lived in a "bubble"
(an isolator) because he had a disease called SCID (severe combined
immunodeficiency disease) and could not be exposed to germs because
they were lethal to him, will speak to Dr. Manny Varela's microbiology
class at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 16, in Room 210 of the Science
Building.

Guides that can be placed under your telephone are now available
for the Ericsson DBC202, DBC212, DBC203, DBC213 and the DBC661 digital
telephones, and for the SciTech HDST-12 and the Comdial AT101 analog
telephones. These guides provide handy instructions for the most
commonly used telephone features. Please e-mail your request for

United Way Benefit
Dinner on May 7 On Friday, May 7, 2004 from 4-7
p.m. the Community Services Center (Meal Site) at 1100 Community
Way in Portales will host its 2nd Annual United Way Benefit Dinner.
We will be serving BBQ Brisket & Sausage, Potato Salad, Coleslaw,
Beans, Rolls, Dessert, Tea and/or Coffee. You have the choice of
dine in or take out. Tickets are $6 per adult and $4 per child.
All proceeds directly benefit the United Way of Roosevelt County.

Legislative Internship Opportunities Available
The New Mexico Legislative Council is seeking
applicants for the 2004 Legislative Internship Program. The opportunity
is for two applicants to work in the New Mexico Legislature: one
of the interns will be assigned to the Legislative Council Service
and the other intern will be assigned to the Legislative Finance
Committee.
The purpose of the Legislative Internship Program is to educate
interested students about the state legislature and to provide practical
experience in the performance of day-to-day staff work for New Mexico's
citizen-legislature. Interns will provide staff support to interim
legislative committees that study the criminal justice system, governmental
ethics, election issues, tax policy and planning, Indian affairs,
health care, welfare reform and scientific and technological developments.
Each intern will receive a stipend of $9,000, to be paid in bi-weekly
installments, and will be reimbursed for expenses incurred while
traveling with interim legislative committees. The internships will
be full time and will last from July 1 through Dec. 31, 2004.
All applicants must be full-time, degree-seeking undergraduates
at one of the six universities. Students receiving undergraduate
degrees in May 2004 are eligible for the program.
Applicants for the internships must submit a cover letter, or an
accompanying essay of no more than 500 words, explaining why the
applicant is seeking the internship, a resume, and a transcript
(an unofficial copy will suffice) of college courses. Failure to
provide the requested documents will result in disqualification
of an applicant.
Submit application materials to Dr. Anthony B. Schroeder in the
Department of Communicative Arts and Sciences on or before Friday,
April 30.
Academic Honors
Convocation Set for May 14 The Spring 2004 Academic
Honors Convocation will be held Friday, May 14 for those students
receiving graduation honors. The program will begin at 3 p.m. in
the University Theatre Center.
Faculty Oboe Recital
on April 13 Dr. Tracy Carr, assistant professor
of music, will present her annual faculty oboe recital Tuesday,
April 13, at 7 p.m. in Buchanan Hall. Dr. Carr will be accompanied
by colleague and pianist, Dr. Mark Dal Porto. Their program will
consist of works by Sammartini, Saint Saens, R. Schumann, Britten,
and Ibert. They will also perform the program on Friday, April 16,
at South Plains Junior College as part of that college's lunchtime
guest artist series.
ENMU Presenting
'How I learned to Drive' Eastern New Mexico Universitys
theatre department will present How I Learned to Drive
in the University Theatre Center at 8 p.m. on April 14-17. Tickets
are Adult $7, Senior Citizen $6, Student $5, and ENMU ID $ 4. The

M.S. Thesis Defense
Mr. Naresh Pandey, graduate student under the supervision
of Dr. Zhiming Liu in the Department of Biology, will defend his
thesis at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 12, in Roosevelt Hall, Room 125.
The title of his thesis is "Differential Effects of the Progesterone
Receptor Antagonist Mifepristone on Maturation and Ovulation of
Xenopus Oocytes." All faculty and students are cordially invited
to attend the seminar.
Clarinet Student
Accepted into Summer Academy Katie Smith, a clarinet
student of Dr. Tamara Raatz, has been accepted into the ARIA International
Summer Academy. This is a four-week program of intensive study featuring
distinguished faculty from around the world. During her studies
at the ARIA Academy, Ms. Smith will study clarinet with Kenneth
Grant, professor of clarinet at the Eastman School of Music, Stanley
Hasty, professor emertitus - Eastman School of Music, Gary Gray,
professor of clarinet at UCLA, Charles Neidich from the Julliard
School of Music, and Michael Webster, professor of clarinet from
Rice University.
ENMU-Roswell Briefs
ENMU-Roswell Holds Summer Pre-Registration Pre-registration
for the summer 2004 session at Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell
will be held Monday, April 19 in the Student Services Center lobby
on campus. Advisors and admissions staff will be available from
8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. to guide students through the registration process.
The summer session begins June 7.
Online registration at will open April 18 for summer classes. Continuing
students or those who have already been accepted for enrollment
can register online through June 9. See page 3 of the summer class
schedule for details. Open registration will be held on campus Monday,

Henderson and Mulliken to be Honored at Annual Foundation Banquet
Two of Roswells prominent community leaders and philanthropists,
Jodene Mulliken and Steve Henderson, will be the guests of honor
at the Third Annual Foundation for the Future banquet, hosted by
the Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell Foundation. The banquet
will be held on Tuesday, April 27 at 6 p.m. at the Anderson Museum
of Contemporary Art, 409 East College. Harris Awards for Distinguished
Service to ENMU-Roswell will be presented to Henderson and
Mulliken, who both have demonstrated a long history of support for
the university and a long history of community service in Roswell.
The program will also feature a presentation by Frank Taylor, General
Manager of the International Law Enforcement Academy. A special
Staff Recognition Foundation Merit Award for Excellence will also
be presented to Lisa Kelt, Computer Commons Supervisor at ENMU-Roswell.
Barbara Merryman, pianist, will provide the evenings entertainment.
The cost of the dinner is $40 per person. This contribution also
supports activities and scholarship programs sponsored by the ENMU-Roswell
Foundation. Checks can be made payable to the ENMU-Roswell Foundation.
One-half of the amount is tax deductible. To RSVP, contact Kate

Community College Board to Meet The Community College
Board of Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell will meet on Thursday,
April 22 in the Campus Union Building Multipurpose room on campus
at 7:00 p.m. Dinner will precede the meeting at 6 p.m. Items on
the agenda include approval of the 2004 spring graduation list,
election of officers, approval of a new Certificate of Occupational
Training in Instructional Technology, and several informational
items.

Telescopes Available
on April 17 On April 17, Saturday evening, there
will be a star party hosted by Oasis State Park and ENMU. Starting
at dusk, telescopes will be available at the Park for the public
to view the heavens. Local amateur astronomer Mick Hoffman will
be on hand to enhance your appreciation of the night sky. Everyone

Walgreen's Interviewing
for Positions on Campus on April 15 Walgreen's,
the national drugstore chain, has opportunities nationwide and currently
there are 4,200 stores across the nation with plans to open 450
more stores per year. Walgreen's will be on campus Thursday April
15, to interview students for: Retail Manager Trainees and Retail
Management Interns. Location: SAS Building Room 214. Who will be
interviewed for employment? Graduates as of May 2005 or before.

Changes in Various
Campus Activities Announced There will be no College
Music Tour during the month of April. The Trash Walk, sponsored
by Portales City Hall, has been rescheduled from April 24 to Saturday,
April 17. On the calendar it is called the ENMU-Portales Community
Action Day. Student organizations that wish to sign up may pick
up an application in CU 104.
Child Sexual Abuse
Workshop Set for April 14 Child Sexual Abuse WorkshopsPresented
by Stella Gallegos, LMSW, on Wednesday, April 14, Becky Sharp Auditorium
in the College of Business from 2-5 p.m. for ENMU students and professionals.
CEU's will be available. From 7-9 p.m. there will be a free workshop
for the general public. Sponsored by New Mexico Coalition of Sexual
Assault Programs and ENMU Community Social Work Committee.

Stay on Track to Graduation Beginning with the
registrations for summer and fall 2004, all students with less than
60 semester hours will be required to consult with an advisor prior
to registering. To prepare for your advising session, print your
transcript from the web, prepare a tentative degree plan if you
do not already have one

for blank forms), and contact your advisor for an appointment.

Student Research
Conference Set for April 13 Eastern New Mexico
University will host the 30th Annual Student Research Conference
on Tuesday, April 13, from 1-3 p.m. in the College Of Business.
The categories are business, communication, English, Hispanic studies,
humanities and social sciences, math/computer science and the sciences.Cash
awards will be given to both graduate and undergraduate student
winners in each category. Awards will be presented at a 6 p.m. banquet
in the Campus Union Ballroom. All students and faculty are invited

Endowed Scholarships
and Departmental Awards Ceremony On Tuesday, April
13, classes will be dismissed from 3:30-5 p.m. so that students
and faculty may attend the Spring Endowed Scholarship and Department
Awards Program. Early afternoon and evening classes will meet as
usual. The program will begin at 3:30 pm in the Campus Union Ballroom.
Endowed sholarships and department honors will be presented. Graduation
honors will be presented at the Honors Convocation to be held Friday,
May 14.

Eastern is currently sponsoring the 7:56 a.m. local news
break on KOBR-TV in Roswell each Wednesday morning during the Today
Show. After an announcement that the newscast is sponsored by
Eastern New Mexico University, a 30-second award-winning ENMU TV
spot is shown.
Defensive Driving
Scheduled The Defensive Driving Course for first-time
drivers scheduled for April 12 and 13 has been rescheduled for the
following week, April 19 and 20. The meeting will be in JWLA 119
from 6-9 p.m. on both nights. New drivers must attend both sessions.
The four-hour refresher course scheduled for April 21 is still on
schedule for 1-5 p.m. in the Aztec Room in the Campus Union.
Volunteer Income
Tax Services Offered The Retired and Senior Volunteer
Program of Roosevelt County will once again be offering VITA (volunteer
income tax assistance) services this year. VITA services will run
through April 15. Hours of operation are on Tuesday and Thursday
from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Community Services Center, inside
the Community Room. We provide free tax consultation and preparation
to the low-income, elderly, and disabled citizens of Roosevelt County.
No appointment is necessary. If you have any questions, please contact

Microsoft Word format. Please Note: Acrobat Reader does not have
the ability to save text you have typed. If you use the PDF version
of the forms, once you close your browser, the information you typed
will be gone. You can save the Microsoft Word formatted evaluations
to your computer for future use and updating. These forms are available

Post Student Jobs
on Monstertrak The Counseling and Career Services
office is using Monstertrak.com to post work study/student hire
positions available to ENMU students. If you are interested in hiring
a student worker for this semester, please post the job on Monstertrak.
The directions on using this system are included on this memo. We
have already encountered several students who are looking for employment.
Each department has been set up in the system, by our office.
To enter job openings, you will need to follow these simple steps:
- Go to: http://www.monstertrak.com/se/employers.html
- Enter your phone number (without area code) and password (greyhound)
and select Eastern New Mexico University from the list of schools.
If you come up with an error, try 562.2211 as the phone number.
- This should bring you to Jobs Listing Menu. To create a new job
listing, select the type of job you are listing and click on create
- Fill in all appropriate information, including any requirements
concerning skills needed, pay rate, and what time of day the student
would be working
- When all fields are filled, click on preview
- Once you have reviewed your posting and are satisfied with it,
click on submit
- You're all done!
- Note: The job posting will not show up on the Monstertrak website
until the following day.

Computing
Drag and Drop with the Right Mouse Button:
If you drag a file, Windows assumes you want to move it. And if
you drag an object from one drive to another, Windows assumes you
want to copy it.
If you want to specify the kind of drag-and-drop operation you want
to perform from the outset, try dragging and dropping while holding
down the right mouse button. You're then given the choices of Move
Here, Copy Here, or Create Shortcut Here. Just select one of the
three.
Telephony
Call hold:
This feature allows out p place a party on hold to perform other
tasks.
To activate:
With a party on the line, press the line key. (The lamp will change
from repeating a double flash to flashing slowly.)
To retrieve:
Press the line key again (lamp repeats double flash)

Scrapbook Your Family Tree with Mandi Park, Saturday,

Yoga

Swimming for ages four years and up with Kristi Hamilton,
Lifeguard/Red Cross Certified Instructor, with four two-week rotations
scheduled Mondays-Thursdays, 4-4:50 p.m. at the Natatorium for a
fee of $40, which includes a Red Cross Card for the level passed.
Rotation dates are: #1-Feb. 2-12; #2-March 1-11; #3-March 29-April
8; and #4-April 19-29. Please register by Friday prior to each rotation.
Aqua Aerobics 12 two-day rotations taught by Kristy
Hamilton, Red Cross Certified Lifeguard, Tuesdays/Thursdays, Feb.
3/5-April 27/29, 6-6:50 p.m., Natatorium. The fee is $90 prepaid
