Next 'Lunch and Learn' on April 6 – Limited spaces are available for Lunch and Learn, "Don't Shoot the Messenger," on Tuesday, April 6, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the COB, Room 103. Lunch will be provided. Those who would like to attend should email sd.assistant@enmu.edu. Reservations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

Motivational Speaker to Present Free Address – The public is invited to hear Delatorro McNeal, motivational speaker, success coach and author, speak at Eastern on Tuesday, April 6 at 8 p.m. in the Becky Sharp Auditorium in the College of Business. Admission is free. The topic of his address is “Leadership on the Big Screen.” He will discuss leadership qualities and characteristics from blockbuster movie favorites. The address is sponsored by ENMU’s Student Activities and Organizations, and African-American Affairs. For more information, call 562.2242.

Faculty Oboe Recital on April 13 – Dr. Tracy Carr, assistant professor of music, will present her annual faculty oboe recital Tuesday, April 13, at 7 p.m. in Buchanan Hall. Dr. Carr will be accompanied by colleague and pianist, Dr. Mark Dal Porto. Their program will consist of works by Sammartini, Saint Saens, R. Schumann, Britten, and Ibert. They will also perform the program on Friday, April 16, at South Plains Junior College as part of that college's lunchtime guest artist series.

ENMU Presenting 'How I learned to Drive' – Eastern New Mexico University’s theatre department will present “How I Learned to Drive” in the University Theatre Center at 8 p.m. on April 14-17. Tickets are Adult $7, Senior Citizen $6, Student $5, and ENMU ID $ 4. The director will be Fel Macias. For more information, call 505.562.2711.

Telescopes Available on April 17 – On April 17, Saturday evening, there will be a star party hosted by Oasis State Park and ENMU. Starting at dusk, telescopes will be available at the Park for the public to view the heavens. Local amateur astronomer Mick Hoffman will be on hand to enhance your appreciation of the night sky. Book Fair on April 5-9 – The Student Council for Exceptional Children will sponsor the Bi-Annual Scholastic Book Fair in the College of Education Foyer from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on April 5-9. There will be books of all kinds for all ages. This is a great opportunity to support SCEC and get a great book in return! Hope to see you there! For more information, e-mail elaine.gard@enmu.edu.

Silver Pack Photos Scheduled for April 5 – Students, faculty and staff can have their portraits taken for the Silver Pack, Eastern New Mexico University's yearbook, on Monday, April 5 in the CUB Lobby. This will be the last chance to have your picture taken for the 2003-2004 yearbook. Those getting their picture taken will also have the opportunity to purchase the picture of their choice. The photographer will send proofs to those interested and give them a chance to order photos. Students who will be graduating in May will have the opportunity to have their photo taken in cap and gown for a graduation photo. The sitting fee for this is $2.. Walgreen's Interviewing for Positions on Campus on April 15 – Walgreen's, the national drugstore chain, has opportunities nationwide and currently there are 4,200 stores across the nation with plans to open 450 more stores per year. Walgreen's will be on campus Thursday April 15, to interview students for: Retail Manager Trainees and Retail Management Interns. Location: SAS Building Room 214. Who will be interviewed for employment? Graduates as of May 2005 or before. Who will be interviewed for internships? College Juniors. Majors: All majors accepted. What should you bring to the interview? A resume and dress accordingly. Changes in Various Campus Activities Announced – There will be no College Music Tour during the month of April. The Big Brothers/Big Sisters Orientation for April 8 has been cancelled. Lastly, the Trash Walk, sponsored by Portales City Hall, has been rescheduled from April 24 to Saturday, April 17. On the calendar it is called the ENMU-Portales Community Action Day. Student organizations that wish to sign up may pick up an application in CU 104.

Thesis Defense – A Study of the Potential Effects of Automobile Traffic on Lithic Flakes, presented by Albert Cheung. Friday, April 9 in Lea Hall, Room 123, at 2 p.m. All who are interested are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Internship Presentation – Please join the faculty of the College of Business in COB 117 on Tuesday, April 6, at 2:30 p.m. as Amorette T. Sanchez presents the results of her internship at the ENMU Internal Auditor's office. A copy of the final paper is available for review in COB 204.

ENMU Concert Band Clinic on April 5-6 – Eastern New Mexico University will host the 2004 Concert Band Clinic, featuring the Clovis High School Symphony Band, Artesia High School Band, (Clovis) Marshal Junior High School Varsity Band and (Amarillo) Randall High School Symphonic Band from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 5-6 in the Campus Union Ballroom in Portales. The host is Dustin Seifert, director of ENMU university bands, and the clinician is Dr. Michael Golemo, director of university bands at Iowa State University. Child Sexual Abuse Workshop Set for April 14 – Child Sexual Abuse WorkshopsPresented by Stella Gallegos, LMSW, on Wednesday, April 14, Becky Sharp Auditorium in the College of Business from 2-5 p.m. for ENMU students and professionals. ENMU-Roswell Announces Upcoming Events – Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell and the New Mexico Department of Labor will host the Third Annual Spring Job Fair on Saturday, April 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Roswell Convention and Civic Center, 912 N. Main. Admission is free.

High school juniors and seniors and parents are invited to spend an Evening with Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell on Thursday, April 15 from 6-8 p.m. in the Campus Union Building. Enjoy free food, prizes and one high school senior will take home a new Gateway computer. RSVP by April 13 to 624.7163.

Pre-registration for the summer and fall semesters at ENMU-Roswell will be held on Monday, April 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Student Services Center lobby on campus. For registration information, call 624.7149.

Attention Sophomores: Stay on Track to Graduation – Beginning with the registrations for summer and fall 2004, all students with less than 60 semester hours will be required to consult with an advisor prior to registering. To prepare for your advising session, print your transcript from the web, prepare a tentative degree plan if you do not already have one
(see <http://www.enmu.edu/degreeplans04> for blank forms), and contact your advisor for an appointment. After consulting with your advisor, you may register online or at the Registrar’s Office. Please contact the Registrar’s Office if you have any questions.

Student Research Conference Set for April 13 – Eastern New Mexico University will host the 30th Annual Student Research Conference on Tuesday, April 13, from 1-3 p.m. in the College Of Business. The categories are business, communication, English, Hispanic studies, humanities and social sciences, math/computer science and the sciences.Cash awards will be given to both graduate and undergraduate student winners in each category. Awards will be presented at a 6 p.m. banquet in the Campus Union Ballroom. All students and faculty are invited to attend presentations. Endowed Scholarships and Departmental Awards Ceremony – On Tuesday, April 13, classes will be dismissed from 3:30-5 p.m. so that students and faculty may attend the Spring Endowed Scholarship and Department Awards Program. Early afternoon and evening classes will meet as usual. The program will begin at 3:30 pm in the Campus Union Ballroom. Endowed sholarships and department honors will be presented. Graduation honors will be presented at the Honors Convocation to be held Friday, May 14.

ENMU Is On TV – Eastern is currently sponsoring the 7:56 a.m. local news break on KOBR-TV in Roswell each Wednesday morning during the Today Show. After an announcement that the newscast is sponsored by Eastern New Mexico University, a 30-second award-winning ENMU TV spot is shown.

Defensive Driving Scheduled – The following Defensive Driving Courses will also be offered during the 2004 Spring Semester for first time and refresher courses. For students, faculty and staff required to drive university vehicles: April 12, 6-9 p.m., Aztec Room, first-time class; April 13, 6-9 p.m., Aztec Room, six-hour class; April 21, 1-5 p.m., Aztec Room, refresher class, four-hour class. Anyone required to attend one of the classes must sign up at the University Campus Police.

Volunteer Income Tax Services Offered – The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Roosevelt County will once again be offering VITA (volunteer income tax assistance) services this year. VITA services will run through April 15. Hours of operation are on Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Community Services Center, inside the Community Room. We provide free tax consultation and preparation to the low-income, elderly, and disabled citizens of Roosevelt County. No appointment is necessary. Post Student Jobs on Monstertrak – The Counseling and Career Services office is using Monstertrak.com to post work study/student hire positions available to ENMU students. If you are interested in hiring a student worker for this semester, please post the job on Monstertrak. The directions on using this system are included on this memo. We have already encountered several students who are looking for employment. Each department has been set up in the system, by our office.
