Faculty Briefs

Dr. Don Holladay, Wesley Foundation Director and assistant professor of religion, participated in a seminar at St. John's College, Santa Fe July 18-23, on "Three Dialogues of Plato." The course looked at Laches, Charmides and Euthyphro and at Socrates' approach to language, logic and values. Among the values discussed in the dialogues were Courage, Justice and Piety. The seminar utilized the Socratic method to discuss abstract concepts in the lesser-known dialogues of Plato.

Dr. John Kennedy, assistant professor of music, and ENMU's Trumpet Ensemble recently performed at the University of Denver. They presented "Turkish Fanfare" by John Fannin, as well as Eric Ewazen's "Fantasia."

Clarification About Taxes on Tuition Waivers – Several employees who have a bachelor's degree have expressed a desire to sign up for a Wellness course under the tuition waiver but are turned off by the misunderstanding they have to pay taxes on the tuition waiver. Please be advised that this is no longer true due to a new admission category established over a year ago – post-baccalaureate admission. Anyone with a bachelor's degree who wants to enroll only in undergraduate courses will be admitted under post-baccalaureate admission. You will not be taxed for any tuition waiver for an undergraduate class. Also, if you are paying for an undergraduate course, you will be charged at the undergraduate, not the graduate, rate.

But please note that no one in this category can take a graduate course. If you want to take a graduate course, you have to receive graduate admission. You will be charged graduate rates for all of your courses, including undergraduate courses, and any tuition waiver will be taxable.
