TRIO Student Support Services on Eastern's campus is known as the College Success Program. – Nico Cameron

Medical Leave Bank Policies Explained

What is the Medical Leave Bank?

The medical leave bank is a pool of hours to which any regular employee who earns medical and/or annual leave may donate some of their accumulated leave hours. The purpose of the medical leave bank is to provide medical leave to contributors who have suffered an unplanned personal illness, injury, disability or quarantine and who have exhausted their compensatory time and medical and annual leave balances.

Who is eligible to join?

Any regular ENMU employee who earns medical and annual leave and has a current medical leave balance of at least six days (hours are prorated for part-time employees) as of July 31, 2004, is eligible to participate in the Bank.

How much do I have to contribute?

Initial contribution is three days if you work full-time; hours are prorated if you work part-time. With prior written notice, the medical leave bank committee may request additional hours from the membership if the hours in the bank fall below one day per member.

Who makes decisions on request for time from the bank?

The medical leave bank is administered by a five-member committee appointed by the President to review requests for withdrawal of medical leave from the bank.

How do I enroll?

The medical leave bank policy, enrollment and request forms are available from the office of Personnel Services, Administration Building, Room 207, or by calling the office at 562.2115. Return completed form to Personnel Services, Station 21, by Nov. 30. Members who have been in the Medical Leave Bank for 30 calendar days are eligible to apply for days from the Bank.

Note: If you are already in the Bank, additional contributions are not needed unless notified by the committee.

Clarification About Taxes on Tuition Waivers – Several employees who have a bachelor's degree have expressed a desire to sign up for a Wellness course under the tuition waiver but are turned off by the misunderstanding they have to pay taxes on the tuition waiver. Please be advised that this is no longer true due to a new admission category established over a year ago – post-baccalaureate admission. Anyone with a bachelor's degree who wants to enroll only in undergraduate courses will be admitted under post-baccalaureate admission. You will not be taxed for any tuition waiver for an undergraduate class. Also, if you are paying for an undergraduate course, you will be charged at the undergraduate, not the graduate, rate.

But please note that no one in this category can take a graduate course. If you want to take a graduate course, you have to receive graduate admission. You will be charged graduate rates for all of your courses, including undergraduate courses, and any tuition waiver will be taxable. TechTips – Helpful Hints for using ENMU Technology (courtesy of ITS Computing)

Computing
Welcome back after a seemingly short summer. As you begin your daily activities and preparations for the fall semester, one thing to check is your computer system. When opening and using your software such as e-mail, Internet, and the Office applications, make sure everything works as before. The two things that you should verify on your system are that it has all of the Windows updates applied and that your virusscan software is at current versions.

To check that your computer is up-to-date with the most current Windows service packs and critical security updates, open the Internet Explorer browser, click on “Tools”, then “Windows Update”. This will open an update page on the Windows web site. Click on the option “Scan for Updates”. This will begin checking your system and will display any updates it finds. Choose the option to install the “Critical Updates and Security Packs” only. After the updates are finished, reboot your system if required.

To check that your computer is up-to-date with the most current versions of virusscan software, locate the blue and white shield with a red “V” in it by your system clock on the bottom right side of your screen and click on it with the right mouse button. Then choose “About VirusScan Enterprise” in the pull-down box. There are two things to look for; one is the “Virus Definitions” which should be at 4388 and the other is the “Scan Engine” which should be at 4.3.20. If either one is not displaying the above versions, please contact the Helpdesk at 562.4357 for assistance.

Telephony
New ENMU Employees:
Access Codes belonging to departing employees should never be “carried over” to new employees. New employees needing a long distance access code or voice mail setup may contact Linda Hamrick at extension 2287 for the necessary form. After the form is completed and signed by the Department Head, the employee may bring the form to UCC 103 and pick up the access code card and/or the Voice Mail instruction brochure. Access codes must be picked up by the employee; they cannot be sent through campus distribution.

For questions or help with dialing instructions, programming, or setting up voice mail, call Linda Hamrick at extension 2287.

If you have a tip you would like to share with us please send it to: ENMU.TechTips@enmu.edu
