"I would like to thank you for giving me a world class education." – former student Steven Shinnick in an e-mail to Dr. Manny Varela

"Your captions were fun. Although now the calls have begun. I tell them I didn’t make up the captions. I blame you!!! Actually, people really enjoy seeing photos of themselves goofing off, except the really old ones left over from the past that you think are destroyed, but they’re really not. They have come to light after being found by the grandchildren in an old steamer trunk in the attic…." – ENMU-Roswell employee

The Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell Foundation today received a check for $6,295 to be used towards the College Access Program Scholarships or CAPS. Bob Cates, President of the Foundation, accepted the check on the foundation’s behalf from Provost, Dr. Judy Armstrong. The money was raised from the ENMU-Roswell Scholarship Golf Tournament held October 16 at the Spring River Golf Course. The tournament was a great success with 24 teams participating. Numerous businesses and individuals also supported the tournament as corporate or hole sponsors. “We appreciate all of the support we have received for this scholarship program,” said Cates.

“This is a wonderful project that is gaining great momentum and we thank the foundation for their efforts,” said Armstrong. “This check will go a long way toward making a difference in the lives of children in our community.”

The goal of CAPS is to give every student in Chaves County schools the opportunity to attend ENMU-Roswell after high school graduation. Currently, only Sunset Elementary, ENMU-Roswell’s partner school through the Rural Community College Initiative, is funded for CAPS. This past school year, the ENMU-Roswell Foundation sponsored $50 scholarships for every graduating fifth and sixth grader from Sunset Elementary School. Beginning this school year, the scholarships will begin in the fifth grade, with students receiving their first $50 when they complete fifth grade. Students at Sunset will receive an additional $50 for each year of school completed through high school graduation.

The ENMU-Roswell Foundation will transfer the funds to graduating seniors once those graduates have enrolled in classes at ENMU-Roswell. The funds can be used for tuition, fees, books, supplies, and tools as needed. Interest accumulated by the combined fund for each specific class will be divided among students who remain in the cohort and enroll at ENMU-Roswell. High school students can use the scholarship funds prior to graduation, if the money is used to pay for concurrent enrollment costs while they are in high school. GED graduates will not be eligible to use the funds. If a student does not finish high school, the funds placed in the account will be returned to the scholarship program. Graduates must use the scholarship funds within two years of graduation, or they will be returned to the scholarship program. Students must graduate from a high school in Chaves County in order to receive the scholarship funds.

Armstrong said other businesses and organizations are being recruited to join the program, so that eventually all Chaves County schools will be a part of CAPS.

TechTips – Helpful Hints for using ENMU Technology (courtesy of ITS Computing)

Computing
Word series – View Multiple Pages in Word

1. On the File menu, click Print Preview.
2. Right-click the toolbar and click Standard.
3. Right-click the toolbar again and click Customize.
4. Holding down the CTRL key, drag a copy of the Multiple Pages button from the Print Preview toolbar to the Standard toolbar.
5. Close Print Preview.
Now the Multiple Pages button appears on the Standard toolbar in print layout view. Just click it and select how many pages you want to view.

Outlook series – To create an attachment via drag-and-drop in Outlook
This is an easier way to add an attachment to an e-mail on Outlook.
• Open the folder containing the file you want to attach in Windows Explorer.
• Make sure your Inbox is open in Outlook.
• Grab the file from Windows Explorer with your mouse and drop it on your open Inbox.
Outlook automatically starts a new email message with the file attached. This works with multiple files as well.

DAT file version update – To check that your computer is up-to-date with the most current versions of virusscan software, locate the blue and white shield with a red “V” in it by your system clock on the bottom right side of your screen and click on it with the right mouse button. Then choose “About VirusScan Enterprise” in the pull-down box. There are two things to look for; one is the “Virus Definitions” which should be at 4413 and the other is the “Scan Engine” which should be at 4.3.20. If either one is not displaying the above versions, please contact the Helpdesk at 562.4357 for assistance.
