General Comments and Compliments

"International Affairs would like to thank the ENMU community for your caring contributions to the “School Supply Drive” to rebuild schools in Iraq. You made a difference."

***

"I just wanted to write to all of the people who helped me to become a teacher and say thank you. I didn't have any trouble finding a job this year. I was offered a couple of positions and decided to teach secondary science at Lake Arthur since I am living in Artesia (where my new husband teaches ag). There weren't any ag teacher jobs open in this part of the state so I was content to teach science and am actually having a pretty good time. I've learned a lot in the past few months about bilingual education and special education services.

We have a lot of interesting situations at this school and I feel that I am being broken in pretty good for a first year; this is quite different from my ag student teaching at Texico. I've also learned a lot about small-school jobs and the many responsibilities that get piled on...coaching, etc. Despite all of the challenges on an hourly basis here, I am having a really good time teaching and actually don't think I'd consider a different profession at this point.

I wanted you all to know though that I have felt very prepared this year and haven't come across anything that one of you didn't warn me about (although at times I thought you might be kidding or exaggerating.. now I know better!). If you ever need a former student to talk about life in the trenches, I'd be happy to share with other students the ups and downs and surprises that I've had so far this year and as it continues. Most of all though I appreciate the preparation that I got from all of you at ENMU.

Thanks again!

Ashley (Martin) Lamb

PS. Shawna Shrecengost is teaching science at a school for delinquent boys and having quite an experience herself! She is doing well and enjoying her work though.

About 60 students participated in the Forty-Second ENMU-Roswell Commencement Convocation on December 16 in the Physical Education Center on campus. In total, about 170 students completed their requirements for graduation at the end of the fall 2004 semester. Nine bachelor degree candidates from ENMU also participated in the ceremony, in addition to graduates from the ENMU Instructional Center in Ruidoso.

Featured speaker, Blaine Hess, member and Immediate Past President of the ENMU Board of Regents told graduates that a diplomas does not guarantee them prosperity or success, but it represents the knowledge they have gained and their resolve to succeed. “It also brings with it an additional responsibility,” he said. “You are required to give back to this university, whether that’s monetarily, or volunteering, or recruiting students.” Hess told graduates to always give 100-percent in what they do in life. “When you give 100-percent, you become a better person. You become a giver, not a taker.”

Hess joined the Board of Regents in January of 1999. He served as the President of the board in 2002 and 2003 and also served two terms as Vice President in 2000 and 2001. Hess will end his term on the board December 31, 2004. An Eastern New Mexico University alumnus, Hess received a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from ENMU in 1976. Hess operates his own company, Blaine Hess Oil Properties. He has more than 20 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry, specializing in production, exploration, and management.

Aviation Maintenance Technology graduate, Bryant Kimes, 41, also spoke during the ceremony. Kimes received an Associate of Applied Science degree and his FAA Airframe and Powerplant license. He thanked his instructors for their undivided attention and their unselfish attention to small details. He said he was taught to cooperate with a team spirit and made many friends. He told his fellow graduates to use the knowledge they have gained to better themselves. “Continue to search for excellence in life. Make your teachers, yourself, and your mom proud,” he said.

A native of Los Angeles, Kimes has lived in Roswell since 1979. He worked for Transportation Manufacturing Corporation (TMC) and then for Nova BUS, Inc. as a buyer. When the bus plant closed, Kimes looked for other opportunities in Roswell. He knew he liked airplanes and flying, so he decided to enroll in the Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) program at ENMU-Roswell. Kimes said it took a lot of commitment and hard work, but he has enjoyed the program and gained valuable career skills.

The ENMU-Roswell Community Band performed processional and recessional music. Cadets with the New Mexico National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Academy served as the Color Guard. Janet Macaluso, Mathematics instructor, sang the ‘Star Spangled Banner.’

3. Right-click the toolbar again and click Customize.
4. Holding down the CTRL key, drag a copy of the Multiple Pages button from the Print Preview toolbar to the Standard toolbar.
5. Close Print Preview.
Now the Multiple Pages button appears on the Standard toolbar in print layout view. Just click it and select how many pages you want to view.

Outlook series – To create an attachment via drag-and-drop in Outlook
This is an easier way to add an attachment to an e-mail on Outlook.
• Open the folder containing the file you want to attach in Windows Explorer.
• Make sure your Inbox is open in Outlook.
• Grab the file from Windows Explorer with your mouse and drop it on your open Inbox.
Outlook automatically starts a new email message with the file attached. This works with multiple files as well.

DAT file version update – To check that your computer is up-to-date with the most current versions of virusscan software, locate the blue and white shield with a red “V” in it by your system clock on the bottom right side of your screen and click on it with the right mouse button. Then choose “About VirusScan Enterprise” in the pull-down box. There are two things to look for; one is the “Virus Definitions” which should be at 4413 and the other is the “Scan Engine” which should be at 4.3.20. If either one is not displaying the above versions, please contact the Helpdesk at 562.4357 for assistance.
