Water Conservation
Committee Studies Trickle Down Economics Eastern
New Mexico University has formed a Water Conservation Committee
to recommend ways the university can conserve water on all university
properties. The administration took a proactive approach to
this issue, says Dr. Greg Keller, assistant professor of biology
and chair of the committee. The committee has made several suggestions
for ways to reduce the use of water around campus, ranging from
reducing current landscaping to planting native vegetation that
would use little or no water. As a university we are using
water at too fast a rate, says Dr. Keller. He also noted that
students have also expressed concern that the university should
be pushing water conservation. Other committee members are Doris
Anaya, Julian Avery, Dann Brown, Robert Cornelius, Todd Kuykendall,
Dottie Lee, Darren Pollock, Lewis Reeves, Sue Strickler and John
Wall. For more information, e-mail Dr. Keller at Greg.keller@enmu.edu,
or call 505.562.2723.

the nationally-known Hondo Fiesta Dancers. Herrera also formed a

a group of ENMU students that love our Hispanic culture and like
to represent it through dances, said Nancy Varelas, student

center. Students from ENMU can access the website by selecting <http://www.ulifeline.org>.
According to Ty Walker, director of Counseling and Career Services,
Eastern is the second university in New Mexico to sign on with this
program; University of New Mexico in Albuquerque was the first.
Ulifeline has almost every single area of counseling, particularly
for suicide and depression, says Ty. Eastern also provides
in-person grief counseling and other personal confidential counseling

Are Your Legal
Affairs in Order? With the everyday stresses that
we all cope with, sometimes it's hard to think ahead regarding the
"What If?" types of scenarios. But we usually find that
the time invested "up front" can eliminate many headaches
"down the road." Such is the matter of having your legal
affairs in order. It can make difficult situations easier to cope
with, for you as well as your loved ones. Good legal "health"
eliminates many of the most emotionally draining legal problems,
which commonly occur. Over and over again, these problems surface
as a result of a crisis, often a sudden illness or death. At the
worst possible time it is discovered that no one has the authority
to act for their stricken loved one, or no one can find important
information required to apply for a needed benefit or to begin helping
a grieving widow or widower to settle the affairs of a deceased
spouse. To help you become "legally healthy," the Roosevelt
County Extension Office is sponsoring the Legal Checkup program,
at the NM Ag Expo, Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 10 a.m. at the Jake Lopez
Building, Roosevelt Co. Fairgrounds. Attorney Kathleen Haynes will
present a program on Estate Planning. Legal Checkup booklets will
be available. For more information, call Connie Moyers, Roosevelt
Co. Extension Home Economist, at 356.4417.

Diabetes Prevention and Control Program. Kitchen Creations offers
recipes and up-to-date information for nutrition and meal planning.
People with diabetes, as well as their family members or caretakers,
are encouraged to attend.
Three separate classes will be conducted:
" Tuesdays for four weeks beginning March 9, 2-5 p.m. at the
Curry County Extension Office, 818 Main, Clovis
