Welcome Back Reception – Welcome back to Eastern New Mexico University for another semester. Global Community Course Being Offered – To meet the General Education requirement for Globalization and Diversity, the Family & Consumer Sciences Department. will offer Developing Global Community Family Members FCS 310 this semester on MWF at 10 a.m. in Room 116 of the College of Education. News 3 Ready to Roll – News 3 New Mexico will resume broadcasting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20. The anchor team of Abby Dunn, Kris Nation (weather) and Jared Olguin and Paul Garcia (sports) will remain. In addition, Jennifer Best and Melissa Chavez will do some news anchoring on Thursdays. News 3 New Mexico is a professional news broadcast, staffed entirely by ENMU student broadcasters. It airs on KENW-TV Monday through Thursday.

Upward Bound Program Raising Funds with Krispy Kremes – The Upward Bound program at Eastern New Mexico is selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts to raise funds for a students' trip to Washington, D.C. in the summer of 2004. Orders will be taken through Jan. 22. Each dozen of the original glazed doughnuts will be $6. Money will be collected at the time the order is placed. Doughnuts will be delivered on Jan. 30. Community Services Center Needs Canned Food – This non-profit organization that provides a variety of services to the residents of Roosevelt County is in great need of canned goods and non-perishable food items to restock the shelves. Financial Aid Announces Hours – The Financial Aid Office will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every Thursday beginning Jan. 29 and ending March 18 to assist students and parents in completing their 2004/2005 Free Application for Federal Aid (FAFSA). Anyone who would like to complete their FAFSA online for the Fall 2004 semester may come to the office of Financial Aid in the SAS Building, Room 107. There will be someone to answer questions.

Evaluation Forms – It is time to begin annual performance evaluations for all staff members for the 2003 calendar year. If you have questions, please contact University Personnel Services at ext. 2115. Annual performance evaluations for faculty will be conducted in the fall. Forms for annual performance evaluations can be filled out online and printed using the following address (not the forms on the Personnel Services Web page): www.enmu.edu/forms

Post Student Jobs on Monstertrak – The Counseling and Career Services office is using Monstertrak.com to post work study/student hire positions available to ENMU students. If you are interested in hiring a student worker for this semester, please post the job on Monstertrak. The directions on using this system are included on this memo. We have already encountered several students who are looking for employment. Each department has been set up in the system, by our office.

To enter job openings, you will need to follow these simple steps:
- Go to: http://www.monstertrak.com/se/employers.html
- Enter your phone number (without area code) and password (greyhound) and select Eastern New Mexico University from the list of schools. If you come up with an error, try 562.2211 as the phone number.
- This should bring you to Jobs Listing Menu. To create a new job listing, select the type of job you are listing and click on create
- Fill in all appropriate information, including any requirements concerning skills needed, pay rate, and what time of day the student would be working
- When all fields are filled, click on preview
- Once you have reviewed your posting and are satisfied with it, click on submit
- You're all done!
- Note: The job posting will not show up on the Monstertrak website until the following day.

ENMU-Roswell Schedule for Martin Luther King Jr. Day – Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell will not hold classes on Monday, Jan. 19, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Faculty and students will have the day off, but campus offices will be open. Classes will resume as scheduled on Tuesday, Jan. 20. For campus information, call 624.7000.

Spring Semester Begins Tuesday, Jan. 20 – Eastern will begin the 2004 spring semester on Tuesday, Jan. 20. The last day to late-register is on Friday, Jan. 23. Currently enrolled non-freshman students can register online anytime at www.enmu.edu. Prospective students should call the Admissions Office at 1.800.FOR.ENMU (562.2178 locally), or e-mail admissions@enmu.edu. The semester ends on May 14.

ENMU to be Closed for Presidents' Day – Eastern will be closed for Presidents' Day on Monday, Feb. 16. Employees wil have the day off.

Local Artist Displaying at Library – Local artist Marie Littlejohn will be displaying her oil paintings in the foyer gallery of the Golden Library through Jan. 23. The gallery is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Jeremy Gardels, art coordinator, at 562.2624.

Smart Classrooms Becoming Available – The install dates for the smart classrooms in the Sandia Room has been scheduled for Feb. 2-4, and JWLA 112 for Feb. 5-6. Science 214 and Lea Hall 111 have been equipped as smart classrooms, too. There will be a Polycom system working in LH 111, hopefully in 3-5 weeks.

Lifelong Wellness Getting Ready for Spring Semester – Many fall semester participants earned their first semester T-shirts and certificates. If you did not participate last fall, I encourage you to sign up this spring. Those of you who were part of the program last fall, if you join again, you will be on your way to a second T-shirt. To earn that second T-shirt you need to participate in three out of four consecutive fall and spring semesters.

Additional benefits to participants for spring will be drawings for basketball tickets for games on Jan. 29, Jan. 31, Feb. 12, Feb. 14, Feb. 19, and Feb. 21, and for theater tickets for productions on the Main Stage. E-mails will be sent to participants giving instructions for entering the drawings.

To enroll for spring, contact Dr. Mary Drabbs and let her know which option below you would like. (First time participants will need to fill out some paperwork and choose an orientation session to attend - details will be sent
later.)

Choice 1 - Lifelong Wellness for 1 credit (need to accumulate 24 physical activity sessions)
Choice 2 - Lifelong Wellness for 2 credits (need to accumulate 48 physical activity sessions)
Choice 3 - Hatha Yoga from 12-1 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Greyhound Arena Room 11

Also, please let Dr. Mary Drabbs know if you would be interested in a mid-morning Aqua Aerobics class two days a week.

The University Computer and Technology Policy Committee (Computer Committee) has recommended the Campus Desktop Computer Renewal Proposal (CDCRP) be adopted with the addendum that the program is reviewed on an annual basis. The Proposal provides a starting point for formalizing the process of allocating desktop computing resources on this campus. It is hoped all interested parties will continue to provide comments to the Computer Committee as they pertain to the CDCRP. The Computer Committee values all comments and hopes the program will evolve as all interested parties articulate their desktop computing needs.

Science Fair – The Science Fair is coming Saturday, March 6, 2004. Eastern New Mexico University is hosting a science fair for sixth through twelfth graders in Portales. The competition is open to every student whether home-schooled or in public or private school. Each science project must be sponsored by an adult mentor, either a parent, a teacher or an adult friend.

Do you know a student who would enjoy recognition for his or her ability to do science research? Students may enter any one of these categories: Behavioral & Social Sciences; Biochemistry (Senior Division Only); Botany; Chemistry; Computer Science; Earth & Space Science; Engineering; Environmental Science; Mathematics; Medicine & Health Science; Microbiology; Physics; Zoology.

ENMU MBA to Be Offered Online – Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) is announcing plans to offer the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program online. According to Dr. Gerry Huybregts, dean of the ENMU College of Business, offering the ENMU MBA online is a natural progression for the ENMU program. Currently, ENMU offers the MBA through an instructional television system (ITV) that broadcasts classes to Cannon AFB, Clovis, Hobbs, Roswell, and Ruidoso. Additionally, ENMU will deliver MBA classes to Carlsbad using video conferencing starting this semester. Dr Lee Weyant, ENMU MBA coordinator, said that ENMU will offer Organizational Behavior and International Marketing during the spring semester. Students interested in registering for these classes should complete registration by Jan. 9, 2004. Classes will begin Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004. AA Meetings – The Lamplighter Group of Alcoholics Anonymous announces that two AA meetings are offered near the campus. The meetings are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m. at the Wesley Foundation. These are open meetings, and anyone with a drug or alcohol problem or with concerns for family or friends with drug or alcohol problems are welcomed.

Fly Rod Building – an eight-week class with Vance Dewbre, Thursdays, 6:30-9 p.m., January 22-March 11, JWLA-109. The fee is $35 with material costs ranging from $100-250 depending upon the quality of selection. Please register by Jan. 20.
Family Photo Calendar – ages 14 years through adult will create a family oriented photo calendar with Creative Memories Consultant Mandi Park providing a packaged kit containing two calendars! Keep one and give the other as a gift or bring a friend Saturday, Jan. 24, 9 a.m.-12 p.m., JWLA-109. The fee is $10 with a kit fee of $20, payable to the instructor. Phlebotomy Technique Training – a 12-week (40 lecture and 120 hour lab) class taught by Mike Blankenship, CMT, will prepare you to take the ASCP examination. Proof of high school diploma or GED, immunizations and liability insurance are required before clinical rotation can begin. Lecture begins Tuesday, Jan. 27, 5:30-9 p.m., SAS-166. The fee is $325 with one required textbook ($47.50) and one optional textbook ($46.75) available at the ENMU bookstore. Please register by Jan. 22.
Microsoft Word and Excel Basics – learn the fundamentals of these two programs with Technology Resource Center Manager, Chris Stockdale. Your choice of either Thursday, Jan. 29 or March 4, 6-8:30 p.m., COB-132 for a fee of $30. Please be sure to bring a diskette.
Swimming – for ages four years and up with Kristi Hamilton, Lifeguard/Red Cross Certified Instructor, with four two-week rotations scheduled Mondays-Thursdays, 4-4:50 p.m. at the Natatorium for a fee of $40, which includes a Red Cross Card for the level passed. Rotation dates are: #1-Feb. 2-12; #2-March 1-11; #3-March 29-April 8; and #4-April 19-29. Please register by Friday prior to each rotation.
Ballet (Child and Adult)/Tap/Jazz/Pointe – 11 age-related 13-week classes with Summer Lasiter beginning the week of Feb. 2. Leotards of any color with pink or white tights for ballet/tap and black tights for jazz as well appropriate shoes are required except for adult ballet, which requires comfortable clothes and ballet shoes. Please call Extended Learning at 562.2165 for class time, date, location, fee and material cost.
Aqua Aerobics – 12 two-day rotations taught by Kristy Hamilton, Red Cross Certified Lifeguard, Tuesdays/Thursdays, Feb. 3/5-April 27/29, 6-6:50 p.m., Natatorium. The fee is $90 prepaid or $8 per week for each rotation. Please register by Jan. 29 to pre-pay for the full semester discount or by Friday prior to each rotation if paying weekly.
One-Night Speedy Cross Stitch – with Victoria Garrett, proprietor of the Cozy Cottage Cross Stitch Shoppe, 119 S. Main St. Walk away with your own potpourri heart pillow Tuesday, Feb. 3, 6:30-9:30 p.m. for only $7 registration and $5 kit fee, payable to the instructor. Please register by Jan. 29.
Hip Hop – two age-related 13-week classes with Monica Macias, GA-11. Comfortable shoes and clothes required for ages 14+ years who meet Wednesdays, 5-5:50 p.m., Feb. 4-May 5 and ages 9-13 years who meet Fridays, 5-5:50 p.m., Feb. 6-May 7. The fee is $70. Please register by Jan. 30.
Tax Accounting for Individuals – a two-week class taught by CPA and Instructor of Accounting, ENMU, Gene Smith, Thursdays, Feb. 5 and 12, 6-8 p.m., COB-156. Be prepared to file your own individual tax return this year! The fee is $40. Please register by Feb. 2.
Internet Basics – learn the basics with Technology Resource Center Manager, Chris Stockdale. Your choice of either Thursday, Feb. 12 or April 8, 6-8:30 p.m., COB-132 for a fee of $30. Please be sure to bring a diskette.
Paralegal – Live lecture classes will be held for six weeks from 6-9:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturdays, Feb. 17-March 27, COB-137. Five textbooks for approximately $250 can be ordered at registration by Feb. 10. The fee is $845.
Real Estate Weekend Workshops – Lou Tulga, CRB, Albuquerque will conduct two weekend real estate workshops for a total of 32 continuing education hours, Campus Union, Sandia Room. Pre-pay $330 for the two weekends and receive a $15 discount, or register for any one or more classes that you need to attend.
1. Understanding and Using RANM Forms (6 Education Credit Hours), Friday Feb. 20, 8 a.m.-3 p.m., with an on-your-own lunch break. The fee is $60.
