TechTips – Helpful Hints for using ENMU Technology (courtesy of ITS Computing)

Computing
Computing
Hot-Key Henry tip for today (Ctrl key series): While in the Word application, have you ever wanted to delete some text quickly from the cursor position backwards? Let’s say you typed a line or two of text and need to delete half of it. Some people will press the Backspace key to delete the text one character at a time. Hot-Key Henry is too impatient to do this; he has a hot-key to come to his and your rescue. To quickly delete text a word at a time from the cursor backwards, press and hold down the Ctrl key, then press the Backspace (Ctrl-Backspace). To repeat the delete function for the next word going backwards, keep pressing the Backspace key (while holding down the Ctrl key) until you delete all unwanted text. If you go too far and delete text you wanted to keep, use the hot-key you learned last week; the Ctrl-Z hot-key. This will “undelete” what you deleted.

Hot Key tip for today (Outlook series): After reading an email message you received and you want to “Reply” to the sender of the message, press and hold down the Ctrl key, then press the R key (Ctrl-R). This will place your window in reply mode where you can type your reply. After typing the message, do not forget to use the hot-key you learned last week, Ctrl-Enter. This will send the reply email message on its way.

Telephony
DND (Do not disturb): This feature is only available on phones with displays (digital phones).

To activate: Dial * 2 7 #.
To cancel: Dial # 2 7 #.

When activated, the caller will get a busy signal and display phones will show “Do Not Disturb” on the display. If you have a tip you would like to share with us please send it to: ENMU.TechTips@enmu.edu.
