ENMU
on Spring Break Eastern is on Spring Break, but
most offices are open. Classes will resume at 8 a.m. on Monday,
March 29.
Staff Development
Video on March 25 The Staff Development Team will
present the video, "Max and Max: Unleashing Potential in People.
. .and Dogs!" from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, March
25, in the Pecos Room. Lunch will be provided. Reservations will
be taken on a first-come, first- served basis. For a reservation,

The video is about empowerment creating the conditions that
nurture growth and development. It will make you laugh. It will

'Sharing Cultural Diversities'
Banquet Set for March 29 Sharing Cultural
Diversities is the theme for the Office of International Affairs
first annual banquet at Eastern New Mexico University. The theme
will be evident by the food, entertainment and speakers. The banquet
is slated for 6 p.m. on Monday, March 29, inside the Campus Union
Building Ballroom. The menu will include stations of food from the
Mediterranean, China, Jamaica, Europe, Mexico and more. Students
will also provide the desserts, which will represent an array of
countries. In addition, international music and dance will be showcased,
including African dances, Mexican ballet folklorico and Moroccan
belly dances. Dr. Mary Ayala and Dr. Nina Bjornsson will be the
featured speakers. Dr. Ayala was raised in the United States but
studied in Mexico, where she continues to teach summer classes.
She is the assistant dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
and is a professor of modern languages. Dr. Bjornsson, assistant
professor of English, is from Iceland and was educated in the United
States. The banquet is open to the public. Tickets are $15 and should
have been reserved by Friday, March 19, by contacting Ms. Cordova
at 505.562.4914.
Former District
Attorney to Speak on March 30 At the Delta Mu
Membership meeting at 7 p.m. on March 30 in COB 103, the guest speaker
will be Randall Harris, former District Attorney. He has appeared
on Court TV and other TV programs. The public is invited.
Summer Aid Applications
Available April 1 Summer Aid Applications will
be available April 1 in the Office of Student Financial Aid and
online through the Financial Aid website. All students seeking financial
aid for the summer sessions must fill out and submit one if these
forms after registering for summer classes.
ENMU Concert Band
Clinic on April 5-6 Eastern New Mexico University
will host the 2004 Concert Band Clinic, featuring the Clovis High
School Symphony Band, Artesia High School Band, (Clovis) Marshal
Junior High School Varsity Band and (Amarillo) Randall High School
Symphonic Band from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 5-6 in the Campus
Union Ballroom in Portales. The host is Dustin Seifert, director
of ENMU university bands, and the clinician is Dr. Michael Golemo,
director of university bands at Iowa State University. Admission

Child Sexual Abuse Workshop Set for April
14 Child Sexual Abuse WorkshopsPresented by Stella
Gallegos, LMSW, on Wednesday, April 14, Becky Sharp Auditorium in
the College of Business from 2-5 p.m. for ENMU students and professionals.

ENMU-Roswell Announces
Upcoming Events Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell
and the New Mexico Department of Labor will host the Third Annual
Spring Job Fair on Saturday, April 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at
the Roswell Convention and Civic Center, 912 N. Main. Admission
is free.
High school juniors and seniors and parents are invited to spend
an Evening with Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell on Thursday,
April 15 from 6-8 p.m. in the Campus Union Building. Enjoy free
food, prizes and one high school senior will take home a new Gateway

Pre-registration for the summer and fall semesters at ENMU-Roswell

Fund Set Up for
Injured ENMU Student Matt Jackson, a Garvey Processing
employee, fell 47 feet from a ladder onto a catwalk at work on Monday,
March 1.He is currently in Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Covenant
Medical Center in Lubbock with injuries to his back and pelvis.
Matt is an ENMU student. A fund has been set up at Portales National
Bank. Donations may be made at any of the bank's locations.

Learn About Law
School Want to learn more about law school? The
ENMU Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity is sponsoring a student
visit to Texas Tech University School of Law, Friday, April 2. Attend
an actual law school class; have lunch with law school faculty and
students; learn about the admissions and financial aid process.
The van will leave ENMU promptly at 7 a.m. Seats are guaranteed
and there is no cost for ENMU Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity
members. There is a $10 fee and limited seats available for non-members
(join Phi Alpha Delta to guarantee your free seat). Reservations

Attention Sophomores:
Stay on Track to Graduation Beginning with the
registrations for summer and fall 2004, all students with less than
60 semester hours will be required to consult with an advisor prior
to registering. To prepare for your advising session, print your
transcript from the web, prepare a tentative degree plan if you
do not already have one
(see <http://www.enmu.edu/degreeplans04>
for blank forms), and contact your advisor for an appointment.
After consulting with your advisor, you may register online or at
the Registrars Office. Please contact the Registrars
Office if you have any questions.

Tuition Waiver
Program Between ENMU Campuses Clarified Question:
Can a person who is employed on one campus use his/her tuition waiver
to enroll in a class offered by another ENMU campus? Answer:
The answer is yes. In addition, as stated in the current policy,
if the employee does not use the tuition waiver, the employee's
spouse may use it. That holds true for spouses taking courses on
other ENMU campuses also. The business offices of each ENMU campus
can make arrangements to cover those costs.
Upward Bound Seeking
Teachers The Eastern New Mexico University Upward
Bound Program is looking for qualified individuals to teach Upward
Bound Classes this summer. The positions can be work-study, student
hire, and licensed or professional teachers. Instructors are needed
in the following areas:
Math (1 position for each class: Pre-Algebra through Pre-Calculus),
English (1 position for each class: Composition and Literature),
French (Beginning), American Sign Language (Beginning), Science
(1 position for each class: Chemistry and Anatomy), Study Skills
(Real World 101), American Government (Civics), Film Appreciation,
Beginning Swimming, Weight Training and Art.
The dates of employment will be from June 14 through July 22, with
mandatory training on June 4. Salary ranges from $8 to $15 an hour
depending on teaching experience.
In addition, the Upward Bound Program is seeking one qualified hall
director and five resident assistants. Benefits include room and
board plus a salary of $200-$300 per week. Dates of employment are
June 2 through July 30, with mandatory training June 2 through June
5.

On-Campus Housing
Requirements Changed The requirement for all students
(who do not live with their parents) to live on campus until they
have earned at least 60 credit hours has been changed to 30 credit
hours. After that, students have the option of living on or off
campus. The change goes into effect this fall, and is designed to
enhance recruiting.

Student Research
Conference Set for April 13 Eastern New Mexico
University will host the 30th Annual Student Research Conference
on Tuesday, April 13, from 1-3 p.m. in the College Of Business.
The categories are business, communication, English, Hispanic studies,
humanities and social sciences, math/computer science and the sciences.Cash
awards will be given to both graduate and undergraduate student
winners in each category. Awards will be presented at a 6 p.m. banquet
in the Campus Union Ballroom. All students and faculty are invited

Endowed Scholarships
and Departmental Awards Ceremony On Tuesday, April
13, classes will be dismissed from 3:30-5 p.m. so that students
and faculty may attend the Spring Endowed Scholarship and Department
Awards Program. Early afternoon and evening classes will meet as
usual. The program will begin at 3:30 pm in the Campus Union Ballroom.
Endowed sholarships and department honors will be presented. Graduation
honors will be presented at the Honors Convocation to be held Friday,
May 14.
2004 President's
'Spirit of Eastern Awards' Call for Nominations
In 1995 the Board of Regents approved an employee compensation bonus
program known as the "President's Spirit of Eastern Awards."
Any employee or student is encouraged to nominate one or more faculty,
professional, and/or support staff members whom s/he believes has
performed in the most superior manner relative to the award criteria
listed on the nomination form. Deadline for submitting nominations
is 5 p.m. on April 2.
President Gamble has appointed a selection committee, made up of
prior award winners, who will review all nominations and make recommendations
to him. Those nominees confirmed (four employees from each employee
group) will receive a check for $500, a plaque, and a pin and will
be recognized at the Spirit of Eastern Awards Ceremony on April
14, 2004, in the University Theatre for the Portales and Ruidoso
Campus. Roswell campus employees and students should contact the
Human Resources department for nomination forms. Roswell campus
ceremony is held at the begninning of the Fall semester.
A printable nomination form is attached. Forms are also available
from the Presidents Office, the University Information Desk,
and the Ruidoso Instruction Center Office. For further information,

Eastern is currently sponsoring the 7:56 a.m. local news
break on KOBR-TV in Roswell each Wednesday morning during the Today
Show. After an announcement that the newscast is sponsored by
Eastern New Mexico University, a 30-second award-winning ENMU TV
spot is shown.
Defensive Driving
Scheduled The following Defensive Driving Courses
will also be offered during the 2004 Spring Semester for first time
and refresher courses. For students, faculty and staff required
to drive university vehicles: April 12, 6-9 p.m., Aztec Room, first-time
class; April 13, 6-9 p.m., Aztec Room, six-hour class; April 21,
1-5 p.m., Aztec Room, refresher class, four-hour class. Anyone required
to attend one of the classes must sign up at the University Campus
Police.
Volunteer Income
Tax Services Offered The Retired and Senior Volunteer
Program of Roosevelt County will once again be offering VITA (volunteer
income tax assistance) services this year. VITA services will run
through April 15. Hours of operation are on Tuesday and Thursday
from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Community Services Center, inside
the Community Room. We provide free tax consultation and preparation
to the low-income, elderly, and disabled citizens of Roosevelt County.
No appointment is necessary. If you have any questions, please contact

'Kitchen Creations'
Comes to Curry and Roosevelt Counties People with
diabetes in Curry and Roosevelt Counties will have another chance
to learn how to prepare good-tasting and healthy foods at the new
"Kitchen Creations Cooking School" sponsored by the Curry
and Roosevelt County offices of the New Mexico Cooperative Extension
Office, in partnership with the New Mexico Department of Health
Diabetes Prevention and Control Program. Kitchen Creations offers
recipes and up-to-date information for nutrition and meal planning.
People with diabetes, as well as their family members or caretakers,
are encouraged to attend.
Three separate classes will be conducted:
Mondays for four weeks beginning March 29, 6-9 p.m. at ENMU Family
and Consumer Science Building, Portales

Community Services Center Needs
Canned Food This non-profit organization that
provides a variety of services to the residents of Roosevelt County
is in great need of canned goods and non-perishable food items to
restock the shelves. Our food pantry serves about 30 families a

on Monstertrak The Counseling and Career Services
office is using Monstertrak.com to post work study/student hire
positions available to ENMU students. If you are interested in hiring
a student worker for this semester, please post the job on Monstertrak.
The directions on using this system are included on this memo. We
have already encountered several students who are looking for employment.
Each department has been set up in the system, by our office.
To enter job openings, you will need to follow these simple steps:
- Go to: http://www.monstertrak.com/se/employers.html
- Enter your phone number (without area code) and password (greyhound)
and select Eastern New Mexico University from the list of schools.
If you come up with an error, try 562.2211 as the phone number.
- This should bring you to Jobs Listing Menu. To create a new job
listing, select the type of job you are listing and click on create
- Fill in all appropriate information, including any requirements
concerning skills needed, pay rate, and what time of day the student
would be working

Victim Advocacy 48-hour live lecture course held three

The Busy Gourmet

How to Care for Your Computer with Mick Hoffman Tuesday,

Yoga

Swimming for ages four years and up with Kristi Hamilton,
Lifeguard/Red Cross Certified Instructor, with four two-week rotations
scheduled Mondays-Thursdays, 4-4:50 p.m. at the Natatorium for a
fee of $40, which includes a Red Cross Card for the level passed.
Rotation dates are: #1-Feb. 2-12; #2-March 1-11; #3-March 29-April
8; and #4-April 19-29. Please register by Friday prior to each rotation.
Aqua Aerobics 12 two-day rotations taught by Kristy
Hamilton, Red Cross Certified Lifeguard, Tuesdays/Thursdays, Feb.
