General Faculty
Meeting on Wednesday, November 17 – It has
come to my attention that the notice that was sent out last week
about the General Faculty Meeting today (Thursday) was not received
by faculty. Therefore, I'm going to hold another meeting on Wednesday,
Nov. 17, at 4 p.m. in the Pecos Room of the Campus Union Building.
I will cover the same material that was discussed in today's meeting.
Hope you can attend. – Steve Gamble, ENMU President

from two surveys, Your First College Year (YFCY) and the National
Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). The DataWave is also posted
on the ARO webpage, at http://www.enmu.edu/academics/excellence/assessment/data-sources/datawaves/index.shtml
(click on “current DataWave”). For additional information,
contact Dr. Sue Strickler, Coordinator of Student Learning Assessment,
at 562.4313.

ENMU Receives
NCATE Accreditation – I am pleased to report
that the Unit Accreditation Board of the National Council for Accreditation
of Teacher Education (NCATE) has approved the recommendation of
the Board of Examiners for continued accreditation of ENMU's teacher
education initial preparation and advanced preparation levels. This
continuing accreditation was with one condition. Eastern will be
required to host a visit no later than fall 2006, focused solely
on Standard 2 (Assessment System and Unit Evaluation). I want to
thank everyone involved (particularly Dr. Isham and his steering
committee) for their role in this successful request for continued
accreditation. The final report contained several statements of
praise for the quality of our teacher education faculty and staff
and the learning opportunities we provide our students. I am confident
we will be able to demonstrate by fall 2006 that we have in place
a comprehensive and integrated set of evaluation measures that document
the efficacy of our programs and the measures used to monitor candidate
performance. Congratulations to all involved. – Steven
G. Gamble, President
ENMU Employee
Would Like Your Used Stamps – Darren
Pollock, a biology proffesor, is also a stamp collector. He would
like for you to please save any stamps you get in your daily mail
deliveries. You could either save the empty envelopes or cut stamps
off the envelopes (even the terribly common flag stamps). He "would
really appreciate it." He is trying to get a stamp club going
(very difficult in a small town), and needs some stamps to give
to the kids. Any and all stamps will be "gratefully accepted."
He will come and get them if need be. For more information, contact
Darren Pollock at darren.pollock@enmu.edu.
Parliamentary Procedures

asking for motions, quorums, and any other aspect of running a meeting?
If so, we have the solution. Join the Collegiate FFA in the Sandia
Room, Nov. 19, from 1:15-2:45 p.m. as they demonstrate how you handle
a meeting and answer questions. If you would like to reserve a space,
call Bonnie at 4352.

Clovis Community
College Needs Graphic Artist/Web Designer –
Clovis Community College will accept applications for the position
of Graphic Artist/Web Designer through Dec. 3. Send a letter of
application, transcripts, current resume including names and telephone
numbers of three recent references, and a CCC application form to
Human Resources Services, Clovis Community College, 417 Schepps

Caller ID
Updated on Campus Phones – AT&T has completed
the installation of the new long distance ISDN circuits that allows
Caller ID to be sent with our campus outbound long distance and
international calls. A few months ago, Qwest installed local ISDN
circuits that allow our PBX to accept Caller ID on local and long
distance calls, but only local outbound calls were able to send
Caller ID. Now all calls will send and receive caller ID. The campus
community needs to be aware that our current system supports Caller
ID only on incoming calls to the campus digital phones. The good
news is that all outgoing calls from the campus now carry Caller
ID. This includes calls from digital, analog, fax or modem lines.

TechTips
Helpful Hints for using ENMU Technology (courtesy of ITS Computing)
Computing
Word series – Did you know that you can combine several word
documents into a single document. To combine several relatively
simple documents into a single document, repeat the following procedure
until all of the individual documents have been combined. The original
documents are unaffected by this procedure.
1. Start a new, blank document.
2. Choose File from the Insert menu.
3. Browse to the document you want to insert.
4. Select the document, then click Insert.
5. Usually, you will want to insert a page break after each file
you insert: Choose Break from the Insert menu, select Page break,
then click OK.
Some attributes of the documents you insert after the first one
may be lost (e.g., margins, headers, and footers). Once you get
all the documents combined, you can work on finishing up document
formatting details, page numbering, etc
Outlook series – Color-code your calendar
In your Outlook Calendar, you can use colors to help you manage
your appointments. For example, you can choose colors with predefined
labels such as "Personal", "Needs Preparation,"
or "Must Attend;" or, you can create your own labels.
Here's how:
To color an appointment or meeting with a predefined label:
1. Click Calendar.
2. Right-click an appointment or meeting, point to Label on the
shortcut menu, and then click a color-coded label in the list. (To
remove the color from the appointment or meeting, in the Label list,
click None.)
To create your own colored label:
1. Click Calendar.
2. Right-click an appointment or meeting, point to Label on the
shortcut menu, and then click Edit Labels.
3. Pick the color you want to rename, type in your new label name,
and then click OK.
DAT file version update – To check that your computer is up-to-date
with the most current versions of virusscan software, locate the
blue and white shield with a red “V” in it by your system
clock on the bottom right side of your screen and click on it with
the right mouse button. Then choose “About VirusScan Enterprise”
in the pull-down box. There are two things to look for; one is the
“Virus Definitions” which should be at 4404 and the
other is the “Scan Engine” which should be at 4.3.20.
If either one is not displaying the above versions, please contact
the Helpdesk at 562.4357 for assistance.
If you have a tip you would like to share with us please send it
to: ENMU.TechTips@enmu.edu
