United Way
Campaign on Campus Still Needs Contributors (also nice way to repay
community for support of Bond "B") –
The Roosevelt County United Way Campaign is underway at ENMU and
we need your help. So far, we have received pledges from 28 individuals
on campus with total contributions exceeding $4,000. While we are
pleased with the dollar amount from these individuals, we need more
employees to participate. Please help us repay the community's recent
overwhelming support of Bond "B" for Eastern by supporting
the community's United Way campaign. It's a great way to contribute
to a number of charities through one source, and show Roosevelt
County how much Eastern appreciates their support of us. Let's make
this a record-breaking year and make ourselves proud by making a
difference in our community! If you have not already done so, please
fill out the pledge form that you received in campus mail week and
return it to Greg Hobbs, Station 49. If you can't find the form,
please contact Greg at ext. 2066 or e-mail greg.hobbs@enmu.edu.

Check Out
New Chess Club – Dr. Daniel Pilon, associate
professor of health and physical Education, was looking to stimulate
the many chess playing minds of Eastern New Mexico University. “I
play, as well as enjoy the game,” says Pilon. “At first
I didn’t think there was enough interest to start a club here
at Eastern.” Once Dr. Pilon began talking to some people about
the idea of starting a chess club, it sparked interest around campus.
“Once I started speaking to a few people around campus, many
players of varying abilities said that they were interested in coming
and playing a game,” says Pilon.
At the group's first meeting on Nov. 10, six people showed up at
Ground Zero. “I was pleased to see the turn-out at our first
meeting and hope that with word of mouth more
players of all abilities will show up,” says Dr. Pilon. “We
are looking for anyone who just wants to give it a shot and learn
how to play with people who are novice up to a master.” Pilon
says, “People are afraid to play chess because of the fear
of looking bad or just losing badly,” says Dr. Pilon. For
more information, call Pilon at 562.2915.

ENMU Receives
NCATE Accreditation – I am pleased to report
that the Unit Accreditation Board of the National Council for Accreditation
of Teacher Education (NCATE) has approved the recommendation of
the Board of Examiners for continued accreditation of ENMU's teacher
education initial preparation and advanced preparation levels. This
continuing accreditation was with one condition. Eastern will be
required to host a visit no later than fall 2006, focused solely
on Standard 2 (Assessment System and Unit Evaluation). I want to
thank everyone involved (particularly Dr. Isham and his steering
committee) for their role in this successful request for continued
accreditation. The final report contained several statements of
praise for the quality of our teacher education faculty and staff
and the learning opportunities we provide our students. I am confident
we will be able to demonstrate by fall 2006 that we have in place
a comprehensive and integrated set of evaluation measures that document
the efficacy of our programs and the measures used to monitor candidate
performance. Congratulations to all involved. – Steven
G. Gamble, President
ENMU Employee
Would Like Your Used Stamps – Darren
Pollock, a biology proffesor, is also a stamp collector. He would
like for you to please save any stamps you get in your daily mail
deliveries. You could either save the empty envelopes or cut stamps
off the envelopes (even the terribly common flag stamps). He "would
really appreciate it." He is trying to get a stamp club going
(very difficult in a small town), and needs some stamps to give
to the kids. Any and all stamps will be "gratefully accepted."
He will come and get them if need be. For more information, contact
Darren Pollock at darren.pollock@enmu.edu.

Clovis Community
College Needs Graphic Artist/Web Designer –
Clovis Community College will accept applications for the position
of Graphic Artist/Web Designer through Dec. 3. Send a letter of
application, transcripts, current resume including names and telephone
numbers of three recent references, and a CCC application form to
Human Resources Services, Clovis Community College, 417 Schepps
Blvd., Clovis, NM 88101. For additional information visit CCC's

Caller ID
Updated on Campus Phones – AT&T has completed
the installation of the new long distance ISDN circuits that allows
Caller ID to be sent with our campus outbound long distance and
international calls. A few months ago, Qwest installed local ISDN
circuits that allow our PBX to accept Caller ID on local and long
distance calls, but only local outbound calls were able to send
Caller ID. Now all calls will send and receive caller ID. The campus
community needs to be aware that our current system supports Caller
ID only on incoming calls to the campus digital phones. The good
news is that all outgoing calls from the campus now carry Caller
ID. This includes calls from digital, analog, fax or modem lines.

Student News
Eastern New Mexico University's ASAB
(Associated Students' Activities Board) has been selected for inclusion
in an upcoming issue of Campus Activities. "I was
reading a copy of Campus Activities, a magazine that comes out from
the national organization that ASAB belongs to, during the summer
when I came across student organizations like Eastern's ASAB being
featured for what they had done," says Dr. Will Kayatin, director
of Student Activities and Organizations.
The feature, due to be published in the next two months, will showcase
profiles of ASAB's programming board. "We wanted to show the
readers of Campus Activities how students at ENMU get involved in
activities around campus," says Ashley Swanson, Student Managing
Director for Membership. "Getting the exposure in the magazine
can also help in the recruiting efforts here at the University."
Dr. Kayatin says that one of the reasons that ASAB has been successful
is that they are all student-driven programs. "The students
who are involved in ASAB work alongside me to help bring the ideas
from the table to reality," says Dr. Kayatin. "Students
help me with such things as negotiating the acts contracts, reserving
the acts, and hosting them while they are here on campus.
For more information about ASAB, call 562.2242.
The Student Insurance cards
for Fall 2004 have arrived. If you do not work on campus you will
need to come by the Student Affairs Office in the SAS Building Room
194 to pick up your card. All other students should have received
your card with your last Friday check. If you have any questions
please call Rhonda at 2221.
