By implementing the principles presented in this video workshop, you and your associates will learn the three sequential components of long-lasting, legitimate influence – influence that goes well beyond mere mimicry, to make permanent, positive changes in leadership effectiveness. It will help you create a more fulfilling workplace. For reservations, e-mail sd.assistant@enmu.edu.

Names already suggested include HoundNet, SilverNet, and InsideENMU. Please send an e-mail to Adam.Morrison@enmu.edu to let him know what you think the new system should be called. Eastern New Mexico University's ASAB (Associated Students' Activities Board) has been selected for inclusion in an upcoming issue of Campus Activities. "I was reading a copy of Campus Activities, a magazine that comes out from the national organization that ASAB belongs to, during the summer when I came across student organizations like Eastern's ASAB being featured for what they had done," says Dr. Will Kayatin, director of Student Activities and Organizations.

The feature, due to be published in the next two months, will showcase profiles of ASAB's programming board. "We wanted to show the readers of Campus Activities how students at ENMU get involved in activities around campus," says Ashley Swanson, Student Managing Director for Membership. "Getting the exposure in the magazine can also help in the recruiting efforts here at the University."

Dr. Kayatin says that one of the reasons that ASAB has been successful is that they are all student-driven programs. "The students who are involved in ASAB work alongside me to help bring the ideas from the table to reality," says Dr. Kayatin. "Students help me with such things as negotiating the acts contracts, reserving the acts, and hosting them while they are here on campus.

ENMU-Roswell News

Read the December Issue of ENMU-Roswell's Newsletter, The Grapevine [read]

Dr. John Jones has been selected as the Executive Director of Institutional Research and Planning at Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell. Jones has served as the Director of Institutional Research at Idaho State University and the University of North Texas. He was also the Director of Institutional Research and Assessment at Texas A & M-Texarkana. Jones has a Ph.D. from the University of North Texas in Sociology/Labor and Industrial Relations.

The Director of Institutional Research and Planning is a new position on campus, which reports to the Provost, Dr. Judy Armstrong. Jones will be responsible for administering a comprehensive, campus-wide institutional research, analysis and effectiveness program. This program will include developing, implementing, and maintaining systems to collect data and produce statistics. Jones will also be responsible for planning and organizing regular internal and external reports and surveys, including the strategic plan document and process.

Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell invites feedback from the public with a new feature on the campus web site called “Tell it to the Provost.” The online questionnaire can be found on the ENMU-Roswell home page at www.roswell.enmu.edu just to the right of the center picture. Comments can be a compliment, complaint, suggestion, report of unsafe or inefficient condition, or general concern. Those submitting a comment must include a first and last name, contact phone number, and e-mail address. All comments will be submitted directly to Dr. Judy Armstrong, Provost.

Armstrong says in her web site message: “ENMU-Roswell provides opportunities that touch students and community residents on a daily basis in many aspects of their lives. We strive to provide cost effective and high quality education and services. Our faculty and staff are dedicated to creating a positive learning environment and giving exemplary customer service. Feedback on what works well and what needs improvement is an essential part of our effort to make ENMU-Roswell the absolute best that it can be. Therefore, I invite you to help us in that effort by providing your ‘feedback,’ positive or negative, to us. The format here is designed to get your comments to the appropriate person, who can then share your compliments or respond quickly and constructively to your concerns. All comments are reviewed. Please know that your suggestions are important to us and are greatly appreciated."

Alan Trever, Electronic Publishing Technology instructor at ENMU-Roswell, was recently voted into the State of New Mexico International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) for moving picture technicians. The New Mexico chapter 480 is based in Santa Fe. The process to become a member of IATSE is very difficult and membership is considered an honor, according to Trever.

Only three schools in New Mexico have film schools with union support. “With me getting voted in to IATSE, we now have the opportunity to work with Santa Fe Community College (SFCC), Technical Vocational Institute (TVI) in Albuquerque, and the New Mexico Film Council to make ENMU - Roswell the third film school,” said Trever. He plans to meet with other instructors and state film council representatives in Santa Fe to determine what film technician training can be implemented at ENMU-Roswell. SFCC started its 36-week film tech program last month. TVI is starting its program in January. “I hope to be able to start our program by February,” said Trever. “This is good news for our students and for New Mexico as a whole because there are four large movie projects coming to the state and one of these will be coming to our area,” he said.

Trever said union officials are also concerned about the need for sound stages. “In order to stay competitive with training and luring new films into New Mexico, we need more sound stages,” he said. “New Mexico has one sound stage that will be built in the near future in Albuquerque and there is a sound stage in Santa Fe that is being used for filming and student training,” said Trever. He talked to union officials about plans to build a sound stage on the ENMU-Roswell campus and leading the southern part of New Mexico in film training. IATSE has 4 million members across the United States and Trever said union members are always looking for training centers with sound stages to train new and existing members. He added that movie production companies are also asking for more facilities and pay about $500,000 to use these facilities and the salaries for 300 to 400 jobs that come with them. “The IATSE members said the doors are opening and we have their support,” Trever said.
