Issues Lecture Will Be Held in Becky Sharp Auditorium on Thursday,
September 23 – “Bare Bones Budget, What
it really cost for families to live” is the title of the lecture
that Ruth Hoffman, the co-chair of New Mexico Human Needs Coordinating
Council, will present at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23, in the Becky
Sharp Auditorium in the College of Business. Hoffman is an alumna
of ENMU and is currently the executive director of New Mexico’s
Lutheran Office of Governmental Ministry. This lecture exposes that
the current poverty level statistics do not sufficiently calculate
what it really costs to provide basic needs for families. New Mexico
is near the bottom of the poverty rankings in the U.S. With a poverty
rate of 18 percent, New Mexico is 50th, and ranks 50th out of the
number of people that do not have insurance. This study was conducted
by: N.M. Voices for Children, N.M. Commission on Status of Women,
Human Coordinating Council, and the Lutheran Office of Governmental
Ministry. Hoffman welcomes anyone who is concerned about the level
of poverty in New Mexico to attend.

Medical Leave Bank Policies Explained
What is the Medical Leave Bank?
The medical leave bank is a pool of hours to which any regular employee
who earns medical and/or annual leave may donate some of their accumulated
leave hours. The purpose of the medical leave bank is to provide
medical leave to contributors who have suffered an unplanned personal
illness, injury, disability or quarantine and who have exhausted
their compensatory time and medical and annual leave balances.
Who is eligible to join?
Any regular ENMU employee who earns medical and annual leave and
has a current medical leave balance of at least six days (hours
are prorated for part-time employees) as of July 31, 2004, is eligible
to participate in the Bank.
How much do I have to contribute?
Initial contribution is three days if you work full-time; hours
are prorated if you work part-time. With prior written notice, the
medical leave bank committee may request additional hours from the
membership if the hours in the bank fall below one day per member.
Who makes decisions on request for time from the bank?
The medical leave bank is administered by a five-member committee
appointed by the President to review requests for withdrawal of
medical leave from the bank.
How do I enroll?
The medical leave bank policy, enrollment and request forms are
available from the office of Personnel Services, Administration
Building, Room 207, or by calling the office at 562.2115. Return
completed form to Personnel Services, Station 21, by Nov. 30. Members
who have been in the Medical Leave Bank for 30 calendar days are
eligible to apply for days from the Bank.
Note: If you are already in the Bank, additional contributions are
not needed unless notified by the committee.

Clarification About Taxes on Tuition
Waivers – Several employees who have a bachelor's
degree have expressed a desire to sign up for a Wellness course
under the tuition waiver but are turned off by the misunderstanding
they have to pay taxes on the tuition waiver. Please be advised
that this is no longer true due to a new admission category established
over a year ago – post-baccalaureate admission. Anyone with
a bachelor's degree who wants to enroll only in undergraduate courses
will be admitted under post-baccalaureate admission. You will not
be taxed for any tuition waiver for an undergraduate class. Also,
if you are paying for an undergraduate course, you will be charged
at the undergraduate, not the graduate, rate.
But please note that no one in this category can take a graduate
course. If you want to take a graduate course, you have to receive
graduate admission. You will be charged graduate rates for all of
your courses, including undergraduate courses, and any tuition waiver
will be taxable.

TechTips
Helpful Hints for using ENMU Technology (courtesy of ITS Computing)
Computing
Managing Your Recycle Bin – Last week, we introduced the Recycle
Bin and its purpose and how to display how much free space you have
on your hard drive. If you see that the hard drive is getting full
then you will need to regularly clear files from the Recycle Bin.
To do this effectively it is recommended:
1. Displaying the contents of the Recycle Bin by clicking on the
View, then Details option set.
2. Sorting the contents into Date order by clicking on the Date
Deleted heading.
3. To permanently delete items from the Recycle Bin, select the
items older than a given date, right-click the selection, and click
Delete. NOTE: The items will be permanently deleted; no recovery
of the items can be done.
Outlook series – Outlook can be very handy in organizing tasks.
But do you have a task that reoccurs often such as lunchtime or
regular meetings? Rather than making a task everyday, you can create
a reoccurring task.
1. Click on the Task icon under Outlook shortcuts.
2. To create a new task hit CTRL+N or double click on an already
existing task
3. Click the Recurrence button on the toolbar.
4. A dialogue box will pop up.
5. From there you can choose how often the task occurs; daily, weekly,
monthly, and yearly.
6. Click OK to exit the dialogue box.
7. Click Save and Close to save the task.
DAT file version update – To check that your computer is up-to-date
with the most current versions of virusscan software, locate the
blue and white shield with a red “V” in it by your system
clock on the bottom right side of your screen and click on it with
the right mouse button. Then choose “About VirusScan Enterprise”
in the pull-down box. There are two things to look for; one is the
“Virus Definitions” which should be at 4392 and the
other is the “Scan Engine” which should be at 4.3.20.
If either one is not displaying the above versions, please contact
the Helpdesk at 562.4357 for assistance.
