TechTips – Helpful Hints for using ENMU Technology (courtesy of ITS Computing)

Computing
Excel series – Adjusting Column Widths and Heights
Working with Excel can be tricky. If you click one column one way you decrease or increase the width or height of the other rows. This can be irritating if you want consistency, but this can be fixed. If you want to get real precise about defining your column widths or heights follow these steps:
• Click the row or column you want to modify.
• Choose Format pick Row or Column and then chose width or height.
A box should appear.
• Type the precise number that you want to change the width or height to.

Powerpoint series – Printing an Outline
How annoying is it when you go to print on power point and it prints a slide per page? What if you do not want to have all the pictures and text setup? If you are just wanting the information there is an easier way. You can print an outline of the text inside your slide show. To do this create or open the presentation you want to print.
• In normal view, click the Outline tab in the left pane, and then on the Standard toolbar, click Expand All to show just the slide titles or all levels of text. (If Expand All isn't on the toolbar, click the arrow at the end of the toolbar, point to Add or Remove Buttons, point to Standard, and then click Expand All.
• On the File menu, click Print Preview. In the Print What box, click Outline View On the Print Preview toolbar, click Print

DAT file version update – To check that your computer is up-to-date with the most current versions of virusscan software, locate the blue and white shield with a red “V” in it by your system clock on the bottom right side of your screen and click on it with the right mouse button. Then choose “About VirusScan Enterprise” in the pull-down box. There are two things to look for; one is the “Virus Definitions” which should be at 4426 and the other is the “Scan Engine” which should be at 4.4.00 (4400). If either one is not displaying the above versions, please contact the Helpdesk at 562.4357 for assistance.

If you have a tip you would like to share with us please send it to: ENMU.TechTips@enmu.edu
