Katie Smith, a clarinet
student of Dr. Tamara Raatz, has been selected
as a finalist for the Santa Fe PROMUSICA Concerto Competition in
Santa Fe on April 2.
Dr. Sue K. Stockly was
elected president of the American Society of Hispanic Economists
(ASHE) during the annual business meetings held in Philadelphia
in January. She will serve a two-year term. ASHE is a professional
organization formed in January 2002 to promote the vitality of Hispanics
in the economics profession through education, service and excellence.

Not Too Late
to Sign Up for Wellness – If you have not
already enrolled in Lifelong Wellness for spring semester, now is
your chance. How do you know if you are already enrolled? Over the
weekend, the Wellness staff sent the current calendar for tracking
your activity to everyone on their list. If you did not receive
the e-mail, let them know. (If you told Mary Drabbs you wanted to
be enrolled but did not receive an e-mail, please forgive her faulty
memory and let her know again.) To enroll, switch the reply to mary.drabbs@enmu.edu,
tell us whether you want 1 credit (27 activity sessions) or 2 credits
(54 sessions), and they will put you on the list. Your efforts are
appreciated for at least two reasons: not only because physical
activity helps you become and remain healthier but also because
the credits help the university enrollment. Two years from now these
credits will help this program by providing some additional funding.
There is a small budget for this year, and they will purchase some
small items to help with programming efforts. One purchase will
be some pedometers. If you would like to be part of a small group
that wears a pedometer as you go about your activities to see how
many steps you take in a day, let them know; counting steps is one
way to record your activity. If there are other small items you
would like to see them purchase for use with this program, please
let them know. We are considering items like exercise balls, elastic
bands for strengthening exercises, and maybe some walking poles
to increase the energy cost of walking. Let them know your ideas.

The National Association of County
and City Health Officials (NACCHO)/Turning Point/Roswell Dental
Project is one of a select group of organizations
that was profiled by the Kellogg Foundation as part of its 75th
Anniversary. Foundation officials chose the Roswell Dental
Project, along with 80-plus other grantees, because the work exemplifies
the values and mission of the Kellogg Foundation. Those accomplishments,
along with those of other grantees, are highlighted during this
landmark year.
The Kellogg Foundation is now presenting some of the products, such
as videos, a website, and a coffee table book, which were created
to showcase the work of grantees. Images and stories gathered during
the staff’s visit to Roswell in April of 2003 are featured
in these materials. A number of interviews with local dentists,
businessmen, and city, and county leaders, are also featured. To
see an online version of the overall package, visit the Kellogg
Foundation website at www.wkkf.org/75th. The Roswell site can be
accessed by clicking on the desired language below the main picture,
then clicking on featured projects and going to page 5. The National
Association of County and City Health Officials is the third listing
from the top of the page.
