Relay for
Life Fundraiser a Success – The Roosevelt
County Relay For Life’s Art Auction fundraiser was a success
due to support from several local artists, banking institutions,
and art patrons. Nine local artists, Marilyn Rigsby of Investments
Out West, Phillip Million, Doris Fleming, LaWanda Calton, Jula May,
Betsy Freeman, Shirley Ford, Tim McGee, and Lois Fox, donated art
pieces to Relay For Life for the fundraiser. Roosevelt County banking
institutions, Access Bank, Portales National Bank, and Wells Fargo,
provided display space for the art pieces during the auction. Many
art patrons participated to bid on the pieces provided by the artists.
The Roosevelt County Relay For Life was able to raise nearly $1,800
to aid in the fight against cancer. The Art Auction was the first
fundraiser leading up to the Relay For Life event being held April
22-23.
What Is Relay for Life?
Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society's (www.cancer.org)
signature activity. It offers everyone in the community a chance
to participate in the fight against cancer. Teams of people camp
out at the Eastern New Mexico University Greyhound Arena and take
turns walking or running around the court. Each team is asked to
have a representative on the track at all times during the event.
Relay For Life is an overnight event, up to 24 hours in length.
Join the Fight Against Cancer
Because Relay For Life is a community gathering rather than an athletic
event, anyone and everyone can participate. Currently, there are
a number of teams participating from Eastern New Mexico University,
including the College of Business lead by Rebecca Cree, Communications
Department lead by Patti Dobson, and the Music Department lead by
Jean Wozencraft-Ornellas.
If you are interested in joining a team or starting your own Relay
For Life team, contact team recruitment chair Janeice Scarbrough
at 359.1013 or e-mail Janeice.Scarbrough@enmu.edu.
For more information about Relay For Life events, contact Mandi
Park at (home) 356.8180, (work) 562.2166 or e-mail Mandi.Park@enmu.edu.

Excel series – Don't Lose Sight of Your Row and Column
Labels
Don’t you hate when you are working in Excel and you lose
sight of all the other cells. You may not be aware that Excel has
a function that lets you freeze these headings in place.
Here is a SOLUTION: Click on a Cell. Go into the Window menu at
the top of your
screen and select Freeze Panes. This command freezes every row above
the selected cell and every column to the left of it.
UNFREEZE THE PANES: Go back to the Window menu and select "Unfreeze
Panes"
Powerpoint series – A Different Background
If you would like a different look for one or more slides in a slide
show, you can omit the master background chosen for your presentation.
First navigate to the slide you would like to change. Then click
on Format | Slide Background, check the box that says Omit background
graphics from master, and hit Apply. To choose multiple slides at
once, go to the View menu and click on Slide Sorter. Then hold down
the Ctrl key and click on the slides you would like to modify. You
can then go to the Format menu and repeat the steps to omit the
background, as above.
DAT file version update – To check that your computer
is up-to-date with the most current versions of virusscan software,
locate the blue and white shield with a red “V” in it
by your system clock on the bottom right side of your screen and
click on it with the right mouse button. Then choose “About
VirusScan Enterprise” in the pull-down box. There are two
things to look for; one is the “Virus Definitions” which
should be at 4439 and the other is the “Scan Engine”
which should be at 4.4.00 (4400). If either one is not displaying
the above versions, please contact the Helpdesk at 562.4357 for
