Employee Briefs Dr. Kathleen Pittman, faculty member in Curriculum and Instruction and coordinator of the Professional Development School at Monterrey Elementary in Roswell, accepted the award of New Mexico Administrator of the Year at the recent New Mexico Coalition of School Administrators annual conference in Albuquerque this July. She was nominated by the New Mexico Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. Dr. Pittman has been on the faculty of ENMU since the fall of 2005. Reminder About Performance Evaluations

July 24, 2007, the federal minimum wage will increase to $5.85 per hour (a 70 cent per hour increase from $5.15) January 01, 2008, the state minimum wage will increase to $6.50 per hour (a 65 cent per hour increase from $5.85) July 24, 2008, the federal minimum wage will increase to $6.55 per hour (a 5 cent per hour increase from $6.50) July 24, 2009, the federal minimum wage will increase to $7.25 per hour (a 70 cent per hour increase from $6.55) Active student employees (those with SPANs dated July 1, 2007, or later) will automatically be increased to $5.85 on July 24. Ginger's Safety Tip of the Month Heat related injuries and illness: The combination of heat and humidity can be a serious health threat during the summer months. If you work outside or in a kitchen, laundry, or bakery you may be at increased risk for heat related illness. So, take precautions. Here's how: * Drink small amounts of water frequently. When the body is unable to cool it self by sweating, several heat induced illnesses such as heat stress or heat exhaustion and the more severe heat stroke can occur, and can result in death. Factors leading to heat stress: high temperature and humidity; direct sun or heat; limited air movement. You need to fan and mist the person with water. Physical exertion; poor physical condition; some medicines; and inadequate tolerance for hot workplaces could be a factor. Symptoms of Heat Exhaustion: What to Do for Heat-Related Illness: 1. – Helpful Hints for using ENMU Technology Delete if new one not received Computing Excel series – Shade Alternate Rows in Excel DAT file version update – To check that your computer is up-to-date with the most current versions of virusscan software, locate the red and white shield with a red “M” by your system clock on the bottom right side of your screen and click on it with the right mouse button. Choose “VirusScan Enterprise” in the pull-down box. Then choose “About VirusScan Enterprise” in the pull-down box. There are two things to look for; one is the “Virus Definitions” which should be at 5064 and the other is the “Scan Engine” which should be at 5100. If either one is not displaying the above versions, click on the red “M” again with the right mouse button, then choose “Update Now” in the pull-down box. This will open a dialogue box displaying the status of the update process. Once complete, close the dialogue box and rerun the “About VirusScan Enterprise” option as described above. If the version is not at or greater than the one above, please contact the Helpdesk at 562.4357 for assistance. New Employees Must Complete I-9 Form – All new employees (faculty, professionals, support staff, student hires, work study students and graduate assistants) must report to Payroll (if a student employee) or Personnel Services (all other employees) before starting to work. All employees must complete an I-9 (eligibility to work in the US) and Drug Free Workplace form prior to commencing work. New employees cannot be paid until these forms are completed. Employees must present identification required by the Department of Homeland Security when completing the forms such as: i.e., driver's license and social security card or passport. Travel Voucher Available on Intranet – The Travel Voucher is now available on the intranet as a PDF form. A requisition number will automatically be assigned when the form is opened. You will need to keep a copy of the requisition before sending it to the Business Office. If you need to prepare a second requisition, use the back key on the browser to go back to the menu and select Requisition again. When you go back in, the form will have another number.
