Smith, Department of Agriculture, and Alexandra Brooks, an ENMU undergraduate student, recently published an article titled“Semen Handling Techniques.” The article was published in the summer 2007 edition of Keystone Cattlemen, Issue 21-14-74. ENMU faculty attended and presented their latest scientific research at the 6th Annual Symposium of the New Mexico IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque on May 17-19. Dr. Marv Lutnesky, professor of biology and INBRE Steering Committee member, was in attendance. The scientific presentations and ENMU speakers are as follows: Dr. Zhiming Liu, biology department, Roles of Cyclooxygenase Genes during Ovulation in Xenopus laevis. Dr. Manny Varela, biology department, Physiological Characterization of the Multidrug Efflux Pump, EmrF, from Enterobacter cloacae and of the Raffinose Permease, RafB, from Escherichia coli. Dr. Nicholas Wright, biology department, Investigating Drosophila Mushroom Body Physiology: Initial Studies on the Involvement of Calcium in Olfactory Associative Learning. Dr. Newton Hilliard, physical sciences department, Construction of genomic libraries and cloning of genes involved in sulfur oxidation in Halothiobacillus neapolitanu. Chairs Elaine Ennis, director of Human Resources, said, “We have combined
the former Personnel Office and Payroll Office to create the Department
of Human Resources. The reason for the move is to allow us to be located
in Offices moving include: Controller moving from Ad 118 to Ad 205; Accounting from Ad 118 to Ad 205; Student Accounts from Ad 113 to Ad 114; Accounts Payable from Ad 205 to Ad 207; Personnel from Ad 207 to Ad 113 (temporarily located at Ad 107); and Payroll moving from Ad 107 to Ad 113. Offices not moving include: VP of Business will remain in Ad 118; and the Budget Office will remain in Ad 118. How long the relocating process will take is not certain. It is anticipated that in two weeks most of the remodeling will be finished. “Everyone is suffering a little bit of discomfort], but it will be better,” said Ms. Ennis. The reorganization will allow Human Resources to streamline processes, according to Ms. Ennis. “We hope to improve efficiency through combined manpower, which will give us an opportunity to assist University staff more effectively.” The department will expand some programs and they’ve already got some new ideas, according to Ms. Ennis. “We’re planning to create a small reference manual for managers, and improve electronic processes as well.” According to her, the human resource staff is looking forward to the future. “We’re very excited about the transition,” said Ms. Ennis. Michelle Adams - Clovis - History To receive a scholarship, students must be enrolled full- or part-time at Eastern, have a 3.0 cumulative GPA, and be eligible to apply for and receive a Pell Grant. Preference is given to students who have been: GED recipients, or returning military students, or adult students pursuing an education later in life, and have two years of course work left. In addition to demonstrating financial need, priority consideration is based on the candidates’ demonstrated academic potential. More Daniels Opportunity Scholarships are still available. Two Web-Based Technical Communication Courses Offered This Fall – In an effort to offer a greater variety of online courses, the Department of Languages and Literature is offering two Web-based courses in their Technical Communication (previously known as Technical Writing) minor this fall. There are openings in English 325, Technical and Professional Writing, and in English 416, Report Writing. These courses are particularly useful for majors in business, nursing, communicative disorders, or any science major. Technical and Professional Writing is designed to teach
students how to write proposals, a report, resumes, and business letters.
Report Writing, a specialization of Technical Communication, will provide
students with the skills to write various types of reports, and focuses
on providing students with practical writing experience in their major.
Update from Hardhat Hound – The Administration Building has no air conditioning today, and is also having phone difficulties. There is a problem between the Admin. Bldg. and the SAS Building with manholes bubbling with water and/or sewage. The plumbers who were working on the problem were pulled off to go to the Science Building where the construction workers hit a gas line. – Helpful Hints for using ENMU Technology Computing PowerPoint series - Create Bitmap Images from PowerPoint DAT file version update – To check that your computer is up-to-date with the most current versions of virusscan software, locate the red and white shield with a red “M” by your system clock on the bottom right side of your screen and click on it with the right mouse button. Choose “VirusScan Enterprise” in the pull-down box. Then choose “About VirusScan Enterprise” in the pull-down box. There are two things to look for; one is the “Virus Definitions” which should be at 5024 and the other is the “Scan Engine” which should be at 5100. If either one is not displaying the above versions, click on the red “M” again with the right mouse button, then choose “Update Now” in the pull-down box. This will open a dialogue box displaying the status of the update process. Once complete, close the dialogue box and rerun the “About VirusScan Enterprise” option as described above. If the version is not at or greater than the one above, please contact the Helpdesk at 562.4357 for assistance. If you need to prepare a second requisition, use the back key on the browser to go back to the menu and select Requisition again. When you go back in, the form will have another number.
