'And the Winner Is..." Set for December 1-2

A group of faculty members at Eastern New Mexico University will perform Mitch Albom's “And the Winner Is…” on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 2 and 7 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 2, at 2 p.m.  Directed by Bob Vartabedian, vice president for Academic Affairs, all performances will be staged in Buchanan Hall in the Music Building.

“And the Winner Is…” tells the comic story of Tyler Jones, a self-obsessed movie star who is finally nominated for an Oscar, then dies the night before the awards. Outraged at his bad luck and determined to know if he wins (even though he is dead), he bargains with a heavenly gatekeeper to return to earth for the big night. Along the way, he drags his agent, his acting rival, his bombshell girlfriend, and his ex-wife into the journey.

The play has a very wholesome ending, but gets there through some adult/PG-13 themes.

Tickets are $10 general admission and $5 for students.  The proceeds will benefit ENMU scholarships and the Main Street Project’s endeavor to restore the historic Yam Theatre in downtown Portales.

For ticket information, call 575.562.2373. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.
