What Goes Up, Must Keep Going Up, Including Minimum Wage – The following information was taken from the web site of the New Mexico Workforce Solutions Department.

Please be aware that minimum wage is the lowest hourly wage ENMU may legally pay employees.  New Mexico and the federal government have established different minimum wage rates that are being phased in on
different schedules.  (See schedule below)

New Mexico minimum wage increases:

$6.50 per hour effective Jan. 1, 2008

$7.50 per hour effective January 1, 2009

Federal minimum wage increases:

$6.55 per hour effective July 24, 2008

$7.25 per hour effective July 24, 2009  (Not applicable for New Mexico)

While work study allocations have been increased for the 08/09 academic year, the current minimum wage of $6.50, as well as the January 2009 increase to $7.50, must be considered when assigning student work hours.

For instance, a student working 320 hours (16 weeks at 20 hours per week) in the fall semester will earn $2,096 and a student working 320 hours in the spring semester will earn $2,400.

Four workshops will help them develop mission, passion, and vision for their future and for right now.  In between these workshops our students will be meeting with success mentors to ensure they are on the right path and assist them with any needs.  We are asking for your participation as one of these success mentors.  The workshops will take place every two weeks in the early evening on the following Wednesdays:  September 17, October 1, October 15, and October 29.  You are welcome to attend these workshops if you would like but your expertise as a mentor would be needed as follows:

General Comments and Compliments

Hello John (Montgomery):

I would just like to take this time to thank you for referencing Daniel Valverde to work for us.  He was an incredibly hard worker who is intelligent and a pleasure to be around.  He is an asset to this field.

Thank you, and if you have anymore references of Daniel’s caliber, we would be happy to hire them.

Congratulations to John Kirby for the most amazing pitching wedge shot in the history of Sunday morning golf at the Clovis Municipal Golf Course. John's shot on the final hole from 20 feet off the green went high in the air and came down directly in the cup, giving the Kirby/Sloan team a birdie and a two-shot victory over the heavily favored Maguire/Walker team. The underdogs finished with a career day of 38 on the nine-hole, two-man scramble.

Ginger's Safety Tip of the Month

"Your own personal safety depends on how you practice safety for others."

Thank you to Mike Nuckols for this safety tip!

DON'T SLOUCH!
While the term "good posture" might conjure up images of Southern debutantes carrying books on their heads, holding the head high and the shoulder back can do everyone some good.  At work good posture-whether you are standing or sitting - helps prevent discomfort and body fatigue.  Here's what you can do.
At your workstation remember to change positions frequently, and keep your body in what is called the neutral posture:
·         Body is relaxed, with arms hanging loosely at sides.
·         Wrists are neutral.
·         Shoulders are relaxed.
·         Elbows are close to the body.

Check that your working surfaces and seats are designed to eliminate the need to work in an awkward position for an extended period of time.  If you are exposed to any of the following circumstances for long periods at a time, and are uncomfortable, have your supervisor investigate the problem:

·         Bend your neck forward more than 15 degrees.
·         Lean forward or twist sideways.
·         Crouch over your work.
·         Work with arms above you head or out, away from your body.
·         Use awkward wrist positions, especially if work is repetitive or requires forceful movements.
