Courtney LittleYour Name?

Courtney Little

Job title?

Recruiter

Brief description of job responsibilities?

I am responsible for all out of state recruiting, as well as recruiting for Cannon AFB.  I also handle in-state and out-of-state scholarships.

What were you doing before you got your present job?

Before moving to NM and going to work for Eastern, I worked at a preparatory school in Greenville SC as a preschool teacher.

What degrees do you have and where are they from?

I have a BA in Psychology and a BA in French from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC

Where were you born and where did you grow up?

I was born in Darlington, SC, and grew up in various parts of South and North Carolina, mostly at the beach.

What was your life like growing up (family members, activities, etc.)

I was an only child for 8 years, but was always very close to my Mom & Dad, and the rest of my family.  I now have two younger sisters, who are currently 15 & 13 years old.  Growing up, I was always very involved in activities such as dance, choir, and theatre productions---basically I loved being the center of attention!  I spent most of my childhood and adolescent years either on the beaches of Ocean Isle, NC or the waters of Lake Murray, SC.  My soon to be husband and I met in high school, which I guess makes us high school sweethearts!  I attended college about 6 hours from home, in the mountains of western North Carolina.  During college, I spent a semester studying abroad in France.

What keeps you busy outside of work (hobbies, family, etc.)

Being new to the area, my fiance and I are still trying to decorate and get settled in our new home, as well as get familiar with the area.  We also enjoy hiking and camping, and look forward to getting acquainted with the outdoors around here.  I love cooking and baking, watching movies, reading books, knitting, and basically being a homebody!

Other Thoughts?

I am excited about my job here at Eastern, and have really enjoyed coming to work every day.  I couldn't ask for a better group of people to work with, and really appreciate all of their patience in helping me learn and become acquainted with my responsibilities as a recruiter.  I am also excited about living in a new and different part of the country.

Eye Candy

Artists

Edward Lowman on the left and Tim Richardson on the right had their likenesses captured in latch hook rugs for their art exhibit. The show was cleverly titled " Edward and Tim's superB FAntastic Show." The closing reception for the artists was on Thursday of last week. Here's a small taste of what you missed.

ArtShow

Above: Richardson, 24, spent five hours on this painting. He says he has always felt he wanted to do something creative with his life and while he is not sure what he will do next, he is considering graphic design. Although, his dream job would be freelancing.

Below: Lowman, 23, originally wanted to be a cartoonist, but as he got older he decided that he wanted to do graphic design. He is pictured here with his sculpture Mechanical Flower, which took him over 12 hours to complete. The inside of the flower is part of a car motor.

Another student show, "Dynamic Contrast," will be displayed in the Runnel's Gallery from Dec. 8-11 showcasing the works of Charlayne Heselson and Helen Perry if you just can't get enough art.

A serious Monday Memo moment follows –

Interim Editor's Note: I know that I cannot speak on behalf of everyone whom Regent Carter impacted. I met him only a few times and I was not a close friend. What I can say is that though our meetings were brief, his pleasant demeanor and presence were well-remembered by me. I know the many decisions he had a hand in making have made this university the great institution it is. I was very moved by his dedication to us students and I whole-heartedly appreciate all he did for us "kiddos." I want to say that though I did not know him well, I wish I had known him better. My sympathy goes out to his loved ones. He will be greatly missed. – Robin Haislett

Scenes from Hanging of the Greens
(Story and photos by Crystal Parra)

The annual Hanging of the Greens was held in the CUB Ballroom last Tuesday. The event, coordinated by ASAB, pairs children from the two local children’s homes with a sponsor who gives them a gift for the holidays. Activities for the children include cookie decorating, picture frame decoration and making ornaments. The event has been held for over five years.

There were approximately 80 children from the Baptist Children’s Home and Christian Children’s home in attendance ranging from four to seventeen-years-old. Members of Kappa Sigma, ASAB and student government were present and entertained the children. There were 80 sponsors who gave each child one gift.

Tracy Henderson, director of Student Activities and Organizations says, “It creates a wonderful night of memories for the children, and makes them feel like this night is just for them.” She is also impressed with how much the students do with the children. “The students do a great job of making the children feel special. They come in and donate their time and hang out with these kids and just create a ‘winter wonderland’ for them,” says Ms. Henderson.

Amber Dorado, a sophomore from Carlsbad, and Debralynn Soza, a sophomore from Roswell, are both members of ASAB. They were both dressed as Santa’s helpers and helped distribute gifts and manage activities. Katrina Radosevich, senior from Albuquerque who is also a member of ASAB, feels that it is important for her to contribute her time. “It’s good to give back to the community,” says Ms. Radosevich. “Eastern believes in being a family.”

Charles Britton, student regent, agrees with Ms. Radosevich. “[Hanging of the Greens] unites the Portales community with ENMU and gives ENMU a chance to give back a little bit,” says Mr. Britton.

Also present were the student body president, Anthony Garcia, and vice president, Trieva Rue. Mr. Garcia believes the holidays are an important time of the year, “especially for the children. Seeing children’s faces light up is a gift all on its own,” Mr. Garcia adds.

For more information about this and other events for Student Activities, contact Tracy Henderson at tracy.henderson@enmu.edu.
