Ginger's Safety Tip of the Month

Plug into Precautions

Don't use an extension cord as if it were a permanent wire.  It should only be used temporarily.  Leaving it in place is a tipping hazard as well as a fire safety concern.  And when you need an extension cord, use one that's the right gauge for the equipment it's plugged into so it doesn't short out or overheat.

Don't abuse or misuse your electrical system and equipment.  Physical conditions of the workplace can cause deterioration.  For example, water may get into electrical components that aren't rated for wet conditions.  If you change a room or work area, be sure to check that the electrical system is compatible with the change.

This safety tip is brought to you by the Safety Office.  For all your safety needs, please contact the Safety Office at #2796.  Thank you and "Be safe out there."

Chris Doughty has done a great job for the past year working for the City of Clovis in the Traffic Division (he’s one of the guys that makes sure the traffic lights work properly).   Chris and his wife have four children, three boys and a little girl, Katie, who is 4.   Katie has had cancer for some time and it is now terminal.  The family is trying to spend as much time with Katie as possible, so Chris is missing a lot of work.  They are traveling back and forth from Lubbock a lot and these things are putting a great strain on the family’s resources.   The City of Clovis has opened an account at Citizen’s Bank called “Katie’s Fund” if you feel you are able to help this little family in time of need. Thank you for your consideration. Claire H.
