Letter-to-the-Editor from ENMU Employee

Editor's Note: The following letter-to-the-editor from an ENMU employee was recently submitted to the Portales News-Tribune.

Dear Editor,

I want to let the citizens of Portales know how a vote for Bond D benefits everyone in our small community.

Bond D provides $12 million for our hometown Eastern New Mexico University.  This includes $9 million for a new technology building which will house state-of-the-art agricultural laboratories for the benefit of area dairy and ranching interests.

ENMU would also receive $2 million for much-needed infrastructure improvements, and $1 million to complete the renovation of the music building--which will provide wonderful indoor and outdoor venues for free music performances open to the public.

These new construction projects will create numerous jobs in the community at a time when people are being laid off, and money spent will recycle several times in our local economy.

At a cost to property owners of only $9.77 per year for a $100,000 home, Bond D is a bargain.  In fact, the $12 million Bond D would bring to ENMU is the equivalent of $1,000 for each of Portales' 12,000 residents.  This is the highest return-on-investment in the state.

A vote for Bond D benefits us all.  Please show the rest of the state that we do not take a back seat to anyone when it comes to being progressive about our future.

Thank You,

Wendel Sloan

ENMU President Expresses Gratitude for Bond D Support

Several on-campus groups at Eastern New Mexico University, as well as the Portales City Council, have passed resolutions supporting Bond D, which would provide $9 million to ENMU to renovate its Technology Building, $2 million for infrastructure, and $1 million to complete renovation of the Music Building.  The cost to taxpayers would be $9.77 per year for a $100,000 home.

The groups passing resolutions include the ENMU Board of Regents, Faculty Senate, Professional Senate, Support Senate, Student Government Senate, ENMU Alumni Association Board of Directors, ENMU Foundation Board of Directors, and the Portales City Council.

Dr. Steven Gamble, ENMU president, said, “We, including the students, faculty and staff, are very grateful for the support provided by these organizations.  We appreciate the support that the citizens of this area have always shown Eastern.”

Creston combines robust and award-winning marketing with a talent for stretching budgets. Creston successfully targets and develops existing markets, along with underdeveloped segments. With our global reach and diverse services, Creston Advertising & Marketing, Inc. is the New York agency ally of choice for successful and visionary manufacturers and IT providers.

Creston's greatest strength is its ability to offer a level of service equal to that of larger advertising agencies combined with prices usually found only outside of the New York metropolitan area.

Creston's integrated creative team has a powerful track record of reinvigorating and building brands with many long-term clients that have been with them for 16 plus years.

For more information, go to:  http://www.crestonadvertising.com/.

Lance Heft asks audiences:  “What is Stopping You from Living Your Dream?”

The answer could very well be YOUR behavior. Each year, many people plan and set goals, and year after year things end up the same for a vast majority of individuals. The goals and visions remain as just that with no major changes to support these dreams.

Mistakes need to be examined and used as tools for change. It makes no difference whether the goal is changing behavior in relationships, diet changes, healthy living, or a major career change.

"Your Turn to Win" will teach you how to break out of that comfort level of familiarity and discover the power of vision, commitment and determination. His goal is to open your eyes to a new way of thinking; one that will inspire you to fulfill your deepest desires and share with the world your unique gifts.
