Employee Briefs Dr. Rebecca Davis, Dr. Kathie Good and Dr. Robin Wells (faculty members in the Department of Educational Studies) were co-presenters at the recent 2008 Southwest Conference on Disabilities in Albuquerque. Their presentation, Disagreeing without being disagreeable: What every parent should know about conflict resolution in special education, was presented on Oct. 2. A 1999 article co-authored by John Luhman, assistant professor of management in the College of Business, was listed as number 23 on the 2008 list of the “50 Most-Frequently Cited Articles” from the Journal of Management Inquiry (a top tier management journal). The article is titled “Hegemonic Stories and Encounters between Storytelling Organizations” by David M. Boje, John T. Luhman, and Donald E. Baack (Journal of Management Inquiry, 8/4: 340-360). Dr. Mark Dal Porto, professor of music, along with Dr. Tracy Carr, associate professor of music, performed Dal Porto’s Procession for Oboe and Piano at the College Music Society National Conference in Atlanta, Ga., on Sept. 25. They were invited as the only Rocky Mountain representatives to perform at the national conference based on their performance of Procession at the College Music Society Super Regional Conference in Missoula, Mon., last spring. Dr. Michael F. Shaughnessy recently interviewed Brooke Dollens Terry of the Texas Public Policy Institute regarding charter schools. The interview can be found at : Dr. Shaughnessy has also been asked to serve on the Executive Board of the Governor’s Traumatic Brain Injury Advisory Council. He was initially appointed by Governor Gary Johnson, and then reappointed by Gov. Richardson. Dr. Michael F. Shaughnessy has just been named Associate Editor of Journal of Education and Human Development. Tibor Machan was smuggled out of Hungary in 1953 when he was 14 and emigrated to the United States in 1956. Goldwater Scholarship is a prestigious national scholarship open to sophomores and juniors in engineering, the natural sciences and mathematics. Hispanic Heritage Month Continues – ENMU will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month through Oct. 15. The first formal recognition of Hispanic Heritage was made by Congress in 1968. Originally designated as the week of Sept. 15, the celebration was centered around the Independence Days of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, which are celebrated on Sept. 15, and Mexico, which is celebrated on Sept. 16.
