field trip

The Eastern New Mexico University’s Hospitality Club recently attended an educational field trip to the Santa Fe Buffalo Thunder Resort to learn about the hospitality and event management aspects that goes into the resort.

The event managers were more then hospitable to the club. Upon arrival, the members where greeted by them as well as the resort’s general manager. The student’s were please to meet managers in sales, accounting, operations, and more.

The event managers had designed a scavenger hunt, a grand tour, and an educational lesson on banquets. Members where provided gift bags and meals. They were also able to leave with the resort resumes for internships as well as future careers after graduation. The Hospitality Club Advisor, Dr. Taylor admitted that hotels usually never do this for students.

The club members where fortunate to gain this type of experience and knowledge. They left with expanded understanding of hospitality and event management and are more excited then ever for their future in the field.

Internal Grant Applications Due by April 10 – Please note the change in the application process for internal grants for spring 2009. The VPAA has requested the committee change the timeline for requests. In the past the spring applications have been for regular faculty only with another round of awards in the fall for new faculty.

With new faculty having been on campus for such a short time (Aug.-Jan.) it is unfair to request that they not only settle into their new teaching, advising, as well as other faculty responsibilities and be prepared to write and submit a request for grant funding in such a short time.

Therefore, effective spring 2009, tere will only be one call for applications. Applications will be accepted from all full-time tenure track faculty members with priority given to new and probationary faculty.

Internal Faculty Research and Instructional Development Grant Applications are now being accepted (open to all eligible tenure-track faculty: see the application packet for eligibility criteria and application format requirements).

Access the application from on the web at:

http://inside.enmu.edu/forms/grant-contract/internal-grant-application.pdf

I am: 14 years old.
I am in: 8th grade.
Favorite food: Mexican food, burgers, hot dogs, and pizza

Gabriella or “Gabby” is 14 years old and is currently in the 8th grade.  She is a very good student and her favorite subject is language arts.  She works very hard at school and that work shows in her good grades.  Gabriella is very independent, forthcoming, and vocal about expressing her wants and needs.  This shows in her very outgoing personality and her enjoyment in leading and taking control in social situations.  This is an asset as well as something for her to work on as she tries to interact with peers while not controlling the relationship with them.  She can be very sensitive and takes things to heart like many girls her age.  Gabby enjoys Mexican food, burgers, hot dogs, and pizza.  She enjoys living with animals and would do well in a home with animals.  She needs a family that can focus their attention on her, preferably as an only child, and she would do well in a rural community.  The family chosen for her would need to be willing to work with her and establish trust and structure as these qualities are necessary for her to feel at home in her forever family.  AC
