Announcements Monday Memo to Have Interim Editors Next Two Weeks – Because the regular editor will be on the high seas, students Robin Haislett and Erin Griffith will serve as interim editors of the Monday Memo the next two weeks. Employee/Student Briefs Dr. D. Christopher Taylor, of the College of Business, will present at the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education conference in San Francisco at the end of the month. The papers are titled “A Case for Selective Marketing: Identifying the Ecological Wine Tourist,” with Dr. Nelson Barber of the University of New Hampshire and Dr. Cynthia Deale of Eastern Carolina University as well as, “Environmental Knowledge and Attitudes: Influencing the Purchase Decisions of Wine Consumers” with Dr. Barber and Dr. Sandy Strick of the University of South Carolina. Dr. Michael F. Shaughnessy was asked to review Curtis Bonk’s book The World is Open : How Educational Technology is Changing Education. Hampton Sides to Speak July 27 – Hampton Sides, author of Blood and Thunder: The Epic Story of Kit Carson and the Conquest of the American West, will speak at Eastern New Mexico University, Monday, July 27 from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Becky Sharp Auditorium of the COB. A meet and greet will proceed from 6-6:60 p.m. HPE 321 Added to Fall Schedule – HPE 321 Wellness: Individual and Global [CRN 13086] has been added to the fall schedule. COMM 331 Added to Fall Schedule – COMM 331 - Intercultural Communication has been added to the fall schedule. Safety Meetings Set for July 27-28 – Safety meetings are set for: Monday, July 27 at 1:10 p.m. in the College of Business, Room 104, or Tuesday, July 28 at 9:50 a.m. in the College of Business, Room 104, or July 28 at 5 p.m. at the Physical Plant. Defensive Driving Offered on July 29 – In order to drive a university vehicle or an Enterprise vehicle for the university, the State of New Mexico requires you to have the 6-hour National Safety Council Defensive Driving Certificate. The 6-hour Defensive Driving Course will be offered July 29 at 12:30 p.m. in Greyhound Arena Room 7. Greyhound Basketball to Play Brigham Young University – The Greyhound basketball team is scheduled to play NCAA Division 1 Brigham Young University on Jan. 2 in Provo, Utah. 1940 Silver Pack Now Online – ENMU’s 1940 Silver Pack is now on the 75th anniversary Web site at www.enmu.edu/75th. Because of Heat, Informal Sunday Tennis Moved Back to 6 P.M. – A group of employees and students play informal tennis on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m., Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. and Sundays at 6 p.m. at the Eastern tennis courts. Management Information Exchange Meeting August 3 – There will be a management information exchange meeting on Monday, Aug. 3 at 3:30 p.m. in the Zia room of the CUB. Staff Back-To-Campus Sessions Set for August 10 – Staff back-to-campus sessions will be at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 10 in Science 108. Staff only need to attend one session. President's Back-To-Campus Breakfast Set for August 14 – The President's back-to-campus breakfast will be in the CUB Ballroom on Friday, Aug. 14. Serving line begins at 7:30 a.m. and the program begins at 8 a.m. Mileage Reimbursement Increased to 42 cents Per Mile – The mileage reimbursement for University travel has increased from 32 cents to 42 cents per mile. Donations Sought for the Dr. Kathy Peca Scholarship – A scholarship has been established in memory of Dr. Kathy Peca. Employees interested in starting a payroll deduction or anyone interested in making a contribution can contact the ENMU Foundation and designate their gift to the Dr. Kathy Peca Scholarship. Contributions can be mailed to the ENMU Foundation at ENMU Station 8, 1500 South Ave. K, Portales, NM 88130. For more information about this scholarship or making other contributions, please call 562.2412. Fire Inspections Set for July – Fire Inspections are scheduled during the month of July. The Safety Office will be coming to offices, basements, closets, etc. to inspect for fire and safety hazards. Please take the time to clean your areas so there will not be any fire hazards or safety violations, like heavy paper loads or cords running across the floors. This report will be turned into Dr. Gamble, your immediate Vice President, and the State Risk Management Department. Recycling Still Available in the Summer – During the ENMU summer session, recycling is available. Due to the lack of accessibility to Bernalillo Hall during the summer, the recycling bins have been temporarily relocated to the lobby of the Campus Union Building. Don't let the fact that it is summertime keep you from "Going Green to Save Silver." Report Student Job Openings to Counseling and Career Services – Counseling and Career Services requests that all departments notify them of any student employee positions available, both work study and student hire. All available positions will be posted on the online job board and Counseling and Career Services will refer students to positions. Distance Education and Outreach Using Blackboard – The office of Distance Education and Outreach is now on the production server for Blackboard. All users may go to the following site to access their Blackboard course shells: https://enmu.blackboard.com. The Blackboard Vista 8 system uses the network (e-mail) login as the username and the ENMU ID number as the password for both faculty and students.
