“I enjoy the small class size, the ability to leave the house 10 minutes before class, the weather, and the friendly atmosphere,” said the Bloomfield native.
The ENMU grad said that teaching was an easy transition from being a student. His biggest challenge is finding time outside regular office hours to meet with students.
“The actual teaching is not bad at all,” said the Catholic.
Hard work is what gives this instructor of mathematics’ life meaning because he enjoys a challenge.
“If it was easy, everyone would do it,” Mr. Bell tells his students to motivate them to keep improving.
His first semester in college he already knew what he wanted to do.
“I took account of the stress level, money, and doing what I wanted to. I figured why not teach because I have spent more time in a classroom than anywhere else,” said the ENMU alum.
He received his bachelor’s in 2006 and master’s in 2011, but wants to work on getting his Ph.D. to become a well-rounded professor.
After getting his bachelor’s, the sports fanatic knew he wanted to go back for grad school, but worked at a semi-conductor manufacturing plant in Phoenix, Ariz. When he was laid off, he came back to Eastern get his master’s.
Mr. Bell has a female Great Dane that’s named after the most important female of the Roman empire, Agrippina, and enjoys taking her on walks. He picked the name Agrippina because he is fascinated by the period and admired “how advanced the empire was in mathematics and engineering.”
The traveler wants to earn his CDL (commercial driver’s license) to work in the trucking profession during the summers and visit Phoenix, Ariz., and other cities sometime down the road.
The golfer enjoys a variety of sports, including basketball, baseball, football, etc.
“I like my job and it is something I always wanted to do,” said Mr. Bell.
