Digital Filmmaking Major ‘Hooked' on ENMU

Joseph Miller takes on-campus courses at Eastern New Mexico University for an affordable college experience that is the perfect distance from home. 

"Once I saw the filmmaking facilities, met the professors and saw the beautiful campus, I was hooked," he said. When not attending school, the digital filmmaking major lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

He graduated from The Learning Community Charter School in Albuquerque in 2014, and anticipates graduating from ENMU in May 2018.

Joe has been on the ENMU Dean's List for two years, accepted the Theater Talent Scholarship and received the Alpha Psi Omega Cinema Scholarship. In his free time, he skateboards, reads, watches films and practices the craft of filmmaking.

Ideally, he wants to be recognized for directing and writing his own films successfully to impact modern culture. He also hopes to help others achieve their goals. "People who really deserve it might not have the greatest opportunities," he said, so he would like to give hard-working individuals more opportunities in the industry. The junior finds helping people around him rewarding. Joe has gained a sense of community by attending ENMU.

"The relations between the students, the professors, and the community is something I will cherish. I have made friends and acquaintances that I will keep forever," he said.

His time at the university will greatly impact his future success. According to Joe, the content he is creating now will launch him forward in his career field. His classes have given him experience to perfect his skills and his portfolio will prove his accomplishments. 

The 22-year-old "highly recommends ENMU" to anyone considering a college degree.

"If college is something they see in their future, I would definitely point them to ENMU," he said.
