PORTALES—In the Nov. 4 General Election, Bond C is worth almost $58 million for healthcare facilities and Bond D is worth $140 million for higher education in New Mexico.
Combined, Bonds C and D would provide approximately $17.5 million for Roosevelt and Curry Counties as follows:
Bond C provides $4 million for the Allied Health Building at Clovis Community College, as well as an estimated $1.5 million for renovation and expansion of New Mexico Department of Health facilities in Roosevelt County.
Bond D will provide $12 million for ENMU, including $9 million for the Technology Building, $2 million for infrastructure, and $1 million for the Music Building.
The estimated cost to property owners for a $100,000 assessed value home is $4 per year for Bond C and $9.77 per year for Bond D.
Dr. John Neibling, president of Clovis Community College, says, “Campus improvements and expansion at Clovis Community College and Eastern New Mexico University will help keep our schools competitive with schools in New Mexico and Texas.”
According to Steven Gamble, ENMU president, the bonds would provide an economic boost for both counties. “If Bonds C and D pass, they will have a positive impact on local economies as the money spent on construction projects will create new jobs and the money spent will recycle several times.”
