PORTALES—Eastern New Mexico University’s Jazz Fest will be at 7 p.m. on March 5–6 at the First United Methodist Church in Portales. This event is open and free to the public.
The ENMU Jazz Combo will open the Thursday evening performance, followed by the Bert Dalton Trio. The ENMU Jazz Guitar Ensemble will perform on Friday, followed by the ENMU jazz ensemble featuring guest soloist on trumpet Mike Vax.
The Bert Dalton Trio is a piano trio based in the Santa Fe/Albuquerque area. They have performed twice weekly in Santa Fe for over a decade, playing a variety of compositions from Latin jazz, Brazilian and original works.
Vax has appeared as guest lead trumpet and soloist with symphony pops orchestras around the United States, as well as the All-American Collegiate Orchestra at Disneyworld. He has toured extensively in Europe, Scandinavia, South America and Japan. He has performed and recorded with such greats as Art Pepper, The Glenn Miller and Jimmy Dorsey Orchestras, The Navy Commodores, The Army Blues, The Army Jazz Ambassadors, The Air Force Falconaires, and the Dukes of Dixieland in New Orleans.
