PORTALES—Eastern New Mexico University students Kyree McField, Jordan Anderson, and Christine Neurauter, along with ENMU employees Vanessa Rollings and Wendel Sloan recently visited Joannie Pullen's classroom at Horace Mann Middle School in Amarillo as part of the "No Excuses University" program.
ENMU's students and staff talked to Ms. Pullen’s Teen Leadership 7th and 8th graders and answered their questions about college life at ENMU. Ms. Pullen, an ENMU graduate, has her classroom decorated with ENMU memorabilia.
Eastern's representatives also sang the ENMU fight song ("O Hail, ENMU") with the students, passed out ENMU pens and pencils, and gave them a gift box of books from the ENMU College of Education, along with a personal note from Dean Jerry Harmon.
No Excuses University is a network of elementary, middle, and junior high schools across the United States. These schools actively promote a comprehensive model of college readiness to all students the moment they begin elementary school.
No Excuses University campuses work diligently to expose students to powerful college symbolism. This symbolism is seen in the college flags and banners hung on every door, felt through the close partnerships forged between classrooms and universities, and heard in the college chants that exist at each grade level.
