PORTALES—Eugene "Skip" Ackler is the new Registrar at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales.
Ackler's last job was assistant registrar at Metropolitan State College of Denver. He is a member of both the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers and the Rocky Mountain.
"Professionally, I am excited to be here because I can learn some things, and help advance the Registrar's staff in the area of organization. This will ultimately help students and faculty," Ackler said.
Where did the nickname "Skip" come from? "My father was a submarine sailor in World War WWII and a boating enthusiast," explained Ackler. "Being the oldest boy, he named me after him, Eugene, but Skipper came from his fondness of boats and the fact that he saw himself as the 'Captain.'"
Ackler has a Master of Arts from the University of Northern Colorado, a Bachelor of Science from Metropolitan State College and an associate degree in occupational studies from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y.
"I was a professional chef for nine or ten years. I do the cooking at home—my wife loves it," Ackler said.
