PORTALES—After receiving more than 200 name suggestions from the public and students for two Greyhound dogs which Eastern New Mexico University in Portales is adopting from the New Mexico Greyhound Connection, a committee has narrowed the selection for the male and female to five paired names: Loyal-True, Roscoe-Ruby, Vic-Tory, Emerald-Silver and Thunder-Bolt.

The final names will be selected through donations of $1 per vote, sponsored by Associated Students of ENMU, in jars in the Campus Union Building, Greyhound Arena and one traveling set for meetings on campus and in Portales from Nov. 9-24.  Money raised will be used for the upkeep of the dogs - expected to arrive on campus in early December and be officially introduced in January.  The ENMU Bench Club has already donated $2,000, and the ENMU Foundation $1,000.

ENMU is also accepting applications for a foster family in Portales.  No expense would be involved.

The following are providing complimentary products or services: Red Flannel premium dog food, sold at Creighton's Town and Country in Portales; veterinarian and ENMU grad David Hudson of All Pets Animal Hospital in Clovis; Caroline Adare of Petsense in Clovis, bowls, leashes and collars; ENMU grad Tonnette Carpenter of Waggin' Tails in Clovis, grooming; and Dee Durden of Rewards in Clovis, training for the Greyhounds and ENMU student "Hound Handlers."

"Hound Handler" applications will be accepted from freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors through Nov. 13.  The maximum of six students must have 3.0 grade point averages and will receive stipends.   Applications can be picked up in Room 108 of the Administration Building.
