PORTALES—The two Greyhound dogs being adopted by Eastern New Mexico University in Portales are expected to arrive on campus in early December, and will live in a campus apartment with two student roommates.

The roommates, as well as other student "Hound Handlers," will walk and play with them frequently.   During the day, the Greyhounds will go to doggie daycare at the Agriculture Building.  The “Hound Handlers” and Pre-Vet Club will be responsible for their daytime care and event appearances.  Several “Hound Families” have been identified for occasional weekend, holiday and vacation-sitting duties.  ENMU is also accepting additional “Hound Family” applications from Portales residents.  The families would keep the dogs when their roommates are out of town.  No expense would be involved.

The final names for the Greyhounds will be selected through donations of $1 per vote, sponsored by Associated Students of ENMU, in jars in the Campus Union Building, Greyhound Arena and one traveling set for meetings on campus and in Portales through Nov. 24.  The ENMU Bench Club has already donated $2,000, and the ENMU Foundation $1,000 for their upkeep.

The five paired names, with current donation totals, being voted on for the male and female are:

Loyal-True ($44)

Roscoe-Ruby ($30)

Vic-Tory ($117)

Emerald-Silver ($14)

Thunder-Bolt ($44)
