PORTALES—Eastern New Mexico University in Portales has set an all-time school record for spring enrollment with 4,359 students.  The previous record spring enrollment was 4,142 in 1972.  This spring’s enrollment is up 8.4 percent over the 2009 spring enrollment of 4,021, and is the second highest ever at ENMU for any semester, trailing only the 4,685 in the fall of 2009.

Student credit hours are 45,494, up from 42,041 in the spring of 2009—an increase of 8.2 percent.

“We are very pleased with the enrollment growth,” said Steven Gamble, ENMU president.  “It is a tribute to our student-centered approach, and the quality of our faculty, staff and programs.  We also know that the stressed economy is playing a role, with more people returning to school for additional training.  To meet this need we have established new programs in recent years, including forensics, environmental science, emergency medical services management, digital cinema arts, aviation science, social work and others.  For those with associate degrees in vocational areas who want to enhance their job prospects, we also offer bachelor degrees in occupational education and applied arts and sciences.  Eastern New Mexico University is doing everything it can to help the unemployed get the credentials and training they need, while keeping tuition as low as possible.”
