PORTALES--Eastern New Mexico University will host Michael Ellzey’s faculty trumpet recital on Thursday, April 8 at 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Portales.
The assistant professor of music will perform “Concerto in A minor” by J.S. Bach, “Sonata for Trumpet and Organ” by Alan Hovhaness, “Girl with the Flaxen Hair” by Claude Debussy, “Sonata No. 3” by Felix Mendelssohn, “Concertino” by W. Herfurth and “Scherzo and Trio” by Michael Sitton and “Hymn” by Sitton, who was the dean of the College of Fine Arts at ENMU until last summer.
According to Ellzey, he hand-selected the pieces to let the audience experience “a wide variety of music that should evoke all kinds of emotions.”
This performance will also be the first time the works by Sitton will be performed in New Mexico. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to perform them,” says Ellzey.
A guest organist Ellzey has known for 10 years, Michaelle Harrison, will accompany him in this performance. Harrison and Ellzey met while Ellzey was attending school in Mississippi.
Ellzey affirms that the audience will enjoy “a great night of music making with a great organist playing great organ literature”
The event is free and open to the public.
