PORTALES—Eastern New Mexico University will host the Symphonic Band/Wind Symphony concert on Sunday, May 2, at 3 p.m. in the Campus Union Building Ballroom in Portales.

The performance will include works by Balmages, Grainger, Williams, Lauridsen, Lithgow, Gregson, Stradella, Bennett and Sternfeld-Dunn. A piece composed by ENMU alumnus B.J. Brooks will be performed for the first time as a part of ENMU’s 75th anniversary celebration.

Dustin Seifert, chair of the music department and director of bands, says the works were chosen to challenge the students, expand their knowledge and to entertain the audience. “There is something for everyone,” assures Seifert. He believes the performance is beneficial for the students because it requires many hours of personal preparation and rehearsal to produce a quality show for the audience.

The concert is described by Seifert as having a “spring feel.” He hopes the “audience will gain further insight into the sheer volume of outstanding repertoire written for winds and percussion.”

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Kathi Fraze at 575-562-2377.
