PORTALES--Eastern New Mexico University will host the Eastern New Mexico Children's Choir (ENMCC) in their inaugural Christmas concert at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 13, in Buchanan Hall in the Music Building on the Portales campus.
The ENMCC will perform traditional Christmas songs along with some more unique selections. The audience will hear five choral numbers along with solos by some members.
Heather Vest, wife of Jason Vest who is an assistant professor of music at ENMU, is the founder of the ENMCC and also worked with other children’s choirs in her previous homes. “I started the choir to give children an opportunity to sing and perform together outside of their home or school,” says Ms. Vest. She has focused on teaching the children proper singing techniques and how to make their voices work together within a choir.
Enrollment in the ENMCC is available through the Distance Education and Outreach program at ENMU. Children in third through eighth grade in the Portales and surrounding area are eligible to participate in the weekly meetings and rehearsals every Tuesday night beginning in January.
The performance is free and open to the public.
