PORTALES--Eastern New Mexico University in Portales will host its annual Jazzfest at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 10 and Friday, March 11.
The festivities begin with a performance at 7 p.m. on Thursday in Buchanan Hall in the Music Building featuring the ENMU Student Jazz Combo, ENMU faculty member Travis Erwin and the South Plains College Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Bruce Keeling.
Another performance at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 11 by the ENMU faculty, guest artist William Peterson and the ENMU Big Band will end the two-day long Jazzfest.
Peterson, associate professor of jazz studies and music theory at Florida State University, was a finalist in the Great American Jazz Piano Competition in 1992 and 1999. He teaches jazz piano, jazz arranging and film scoring. He is also the supervisor of student composers who are scoring films for the Florida State University School of Motion Picture, Television and Recording Arts.
Peterson will also teach two master classes to the jazz programs of Gallup and Clovis High School.
The concerts are free and open to the public.
