PORTALES – Eastern New Mexico University will host the ENMU choir and orchestra in their performance of Joseph Hadyn’s “Mass in Time of War” at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 22 on the Mainstage of the University Theatre Center on the Portales campus.
For the second half of the performance, music professor Michael Ellzey will perform the Haydn Trumpet Concerto. Also, the choir will be joined by Caprock Pro Musica, a professional orchestra from Lubbock, and student soloists Audra Methvin, Jessica Flores, Robert Garza and Derek Gilmour.
This is the second rendition of the choir’s recent performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Forty-four students visited the famous hall and performed for a festival organized by MidAmerica Productions.
According to Jason Paulk, director of choral activities and assistant professor of music, the opportunity to take the ENMU choir to a world-famous performance hall is a great honor for himself, his students and ENMU as a whole. “When you have the opportunity to make music with great musicians in a world-class performance venue, it can be life-changing. I had students share with me after our rehearsals in New York that they had decided to make music one of their life's ambitions. It really puts ENMU in the national spotlight to have our singers performing a high visibility concert in Carnegie Hall.”
