PORTALES — Eastern New Mexico University will host the Single Reed Recital at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, in Buchanan Hall in the Music Building on the Portales campus.

The clarinet quartet will perform "Divertimento" by Alfred Uhl, "Musetta's Waltz Song" from "La Boheme"  by Giacomo Puccini,  selections from "Threepenny Opera" by Kurt Weill. The saxophone quartet will play "Trois Conversations" by Paul Pierne, "Milonga del Angel" by Astor Piazzolla, and "String Quartet in E-Flat Major, Opus 33, No. 2" by Joseph Haydn. A clarinet duet will perform "Sonata for Two Clarinets" by Francis Poulenc and a saxophone duet will perform "Mood Music 2" by Glenn Smith.

According to Jennifer Laubenthal, assistant professor of clarinet, the selections were chosen for their diversity, how well the medium and the pieces worked together, and the enjoyment of the ensemble members. "The most difficult aspects are choosing the literature, perfecting individual parts and blending sounds and interpretations," says Laubenthal.
The Ohio State University alumnae confirms that the saxophoninsts and clarinetists have worked tirelessly in preparation and the audience will be treated to a variety of great music.
The event is free and open to the public.
